Gruber confirms he’ll defend 1:8 GT World title in Chile

Toni Gruber has confirmed that he will make the trip to Chile in September to defend his IFMAR 1:8 GT World Championship title.  The German won the title for his GT chassis sponsor Hong Nor and engine sponsor Ielasi Tuned in 2023 in Sydney, Australia, on what was only the second running of the World Championship for the category.  With the 3rd edition originally awarded to Peru, issues for that track meant it was moved to Chile and to  the very impressive Club de Aeromodelos de Chile (CACH) facility which houses a variety of RC tracks and airfields and which will also host the 1:8 Onroad Worlds 2-months after the GT event.  With the dramas of both 2024 IFMAR World Championships awarded to South American being relocated to Spain and Thailand, there has been talk of top international drivers not intending on travelling to Chile so we reached out to a number of the potential title contenders to clarify their position on supporting the event.  Gruber, whose title winning reaction photo almost broke the internet, had no hesitation in confirming he will be in Chile for the September 14-20th schedule event.

Yokomo updated BL-RPX3 & BL-RPXS Speedos

Yokomo has updated both its BL-RPX3 & BL-RPXS brushless speed controllers with the release of V2 versions.  While maintaining the powerful output and boost/turbo functions of the previous versions, the power feeling settings and braking have been greatly improved.  Specifically, the compress, which determines throttle feel, can now be adjusted to the minus side as well, whereas before it could only be adjusted to the plus side.  In addition, the addition of a party mode allows the throttle opening range corresponding to the compressor to be limited.  In order to improve the response and strength of the brakes, powerful braking at high speeds is now possible.

EWS Round 5 & Overall Championship – Report

The well-known Essex Winter Series concluded it’s 2024/25 season over the weekend at its venue in the South-East of the UK.  In the LRP Modified class, Olly Jefferies and Elliott Harper were tied on points going into the race, with Kyle Branson just two points behind, setting up a great showdown to round out the series.  In qualifying, Olly was on form, taking his factory Awesomatix to the fastest time in every round, putting a firm grip on the overall title.  Kyle Branson lined up second on the grid with his Tonisport-backed Awesomatix, with Alex Thurston taking the new Mugen MTC-3 to third.  Elliott Harper essentially saw his chances of another EWS title disappearing with a fourth place grid spot for Schumacher, and Stefan Chodzynski rounded out the top five with another Tonisport-supported Awesomatix.  In the final, Olly stamped his authority on the season with a commanding win.  Kyle took second place, about 1.5-seconds back on Olly, whilst Elliott and Alex battled hard for third. Elliott took third, whilst side-by-side racing over the last few laps allowed Bailey Graves to come through to fourth and Jack Collins take fifth. In the overall points, Olly Jefferies took the title, with Elliott finishing in the runner-up position.  Kyle was third overall with Alex fourth in the standings.  Harley Eldridge, missing this race to be at the ETS in Vienna, was fifth overall.

ALF1 3D-Printed F1 Front and Rear Wings

Based in California ALF1 Racing Designs has released these new 3D printed 1:10 Formula 1 wings utilise Tamiya F104 style wing mounts, ensuring broad applicability across various chassis platforms. Meticulously 3D-printed using resilient TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) to absorb the harsh impacts encountered during intense race conditions, this material choice ensures exceptional durability and longevity.  For critical areas that demand maximum rigidity, the rear side plates and front mount are constructed from carbon fibre infused PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol). This advanced composite material provides superior strength and stiffness, ensuring optimal aerodynamic performance and precise handling.  The front wing is designed with a low downforce profile, incorporating strategically placed ‘pass-through’ air ventilation holes to minimise drag while maintaining a modern 2025 F1 aesthetic.  The rear wing is engineered for high downforce, generating substantial rear traction for improved cornering and acceleration. Its unique design includes replaceable side wing plates, providing racers with virtually unlimited customisation options to fine-tune their car’s aerodynamic setup.

Revolution Design Ultra Backplate for O.S .21 Engines

New from Germany’s Revolution Design comes this Ultra Backplate engineered to maximise fuel efficiency and enhance engine performance for OS .21 offroad engines.  A direct-fit upgrade for all O.S .21 offroad engines, including B2104, B2105, RNX, and Samurai models and their OEM versions, it is manufactured from high-quality 7075-T6 aluminium and PTFE hard-coated for durability and reduced friction, this precision-designed upgrade extends runtime by up to 30 seconds per tank.  The advanced internal design of the Ultra Backplate optimizes fuel dynamics by reducing flow resistance and improving fuel scavenging. When the exhaust port opens, the generated low pressure assists in drawing fuel more effectively through the crankcase, ensuring a smoother power delivery and increased efficiency, particularly in the mid-to-high RPM range.  At lower RPMs, the improved flow design maintains a more stable idle and smoother throttle response, contributing to an overall better engine feel and improved consistency.
