2020 DHI-Cup – Report

The 2020 edition of the popular DHI-Cup was hosted by the Odense RC Minirace team this past weekend. The race was held in Touring Modified, Touring Super Stock, Front Wheel Drive and Formula classes and it attracted many of Europe’s fast electric on-road racers. In the Touring Modified class, Patrick Hornum took the overall TQ and he also took a commanding win in leg 1 of the A-mains and although having a few problems with traffic in leg 2, Hornum also managed to win the second A-main for an early overall title. Florian Joos from Belgium did his best to challenge Hornum in the third and final race of the weekend – and ended up winning A3 after Hornum was off track in an incident on the deciding laps of A3. Jakub Rozycki made it through to 2nd on this occasion, while Hornum managed to cling on to 3rd. The A3 win handed Florian Joos a 2nd place overall in Modified while Jakub Rozycki took 3rd. Mike Hansen was close to Rozycki but had to stick with 4th overall ahead of Moritz Flügge.

Carisma Racing CRF-1 Classic Team Lotus Type 98T kit

Based on their recently introduced CRF chassis line comes Carisma Racing’s all-new CRF-1 Classic Team Lotus Type 98T 1/10th formula car kit. The Lotus 98T was a truly innovative F1 car designed for Team Lotus by Gérard Ducarouge and Martin Ogilvie. It was raced by the legendary Brazilian Ayrton Senna, and his teammate, Scottish driver Johnny Dumfries in the 1986 Formula One World Championships. The 98T was the last Lotus car in history to carry John Player’s famous black and gold colours. On many levels this car truly epitomises 1980’s F1, and Carisma Racings latest release a fitting tribute to both the vehicle itself and the driving legends of that era of motorsport. The CRF-1 is a new, innovative 2WD race chassis that was designed and tested in Europe, both taking the TQ and win at the first BRCA F1 National of the 2019/20 season. The body is licensed by Classic Team Lotus and not only a fun and icon RC F1 car to own, its also a collectable snapshot of automotive history. Performance-wise, the CRF-1 platform is as adjustable as possible, to cater for every track/surface type and driving style. The components and materials used represent the finest and most durable for this type of racing, allowing the driver to compete at the very highest level, and be able to fine-tune the setup and chassis geometry to win races. The kit includes the chassis and highly detailed body shell and wings but no wheels, tyres, electronics or paints.

Nagashima is OneTen Rd6 Top qualifier

Completing the qualifying double this weekend, Yugo Nagashima is once again the top qualifier here in Shanghai, the Serpent driver topping the times in Q2 and 3 to secure his second pole position in as many days. Again he was pushed hard by JJ Wang, the American leading for half of the 3rd qualifier before being passed in the dying stages by the Japanese racer. Rocket Zhang has all but confirmed his 3rd place starting spot for this afternoon’s 8-minute A-main with his 3rd top 3 run of the day, with the remainder of the top 5 also staying the same as Motor King took 4th place for a 3rd time as well as Gary Huang in 5th. Yugo was happy to wrap up the TQ spot earlier, but was quick to point out that he had tried a change in setup which wasn’t to his liking which explained how JJ made it to the front in the 3rd qualifier. Saying the feeling was good but the car now had too much rotation he may have went too far in a direction and will make some more changes to dial back the effect for Q4.

Round 6 starts with first qualifier to Nagashima

Having dominated proceedings yesterday in round 5 of the OneTen Series, Yugo Nagashima made his intentions of a double known early as he took the opening qualifier here at RCI V2. Although kept honest by the following JJ Wang, the American was just not able to match the pace of the Serpent driver and ended up 7 tenths back in the 4-minute encounter. Rocket Zhang was once again the best of the rest as Serpent continue to have a good showing here in Shanghai, with Motor King and Gary Huang completing the top 5 for the round in the Infinity Modified class. Continuing to use the setup he trialed in the last main yesterday evening, Yugo also said that he rebuilt the diff on his Serpent as he found the one he was using was leaking. Asked about the track conditions today he mention that the track feels more free, giving the car a better feeling of rotation in the corners.
