Rain halts final practice at 1:10 World Championship

Rain halted the final round of practice at the 1:10 200mm World Championship in Florida. A heavy shower stopped proceedings at Homestead RC Raceway half way through what was to be the drivers fourth practice of the second official day of the event. Having also ran 4 rounds of practice yesterday, officially it is Mugen’s Robert Pietsch who has produced the fastest time of practice ahead of reigning World Champion Dominic Greiner and Jesse Davis.  With overnight rain washing away traction built up during the International Practice Days and yesterday’s first round of official practice, today’s times were slower. After respraying the track with sugar water this morning it was Greiner who was fastest in the first round from 200mm rookie Naoto Matsukura. The Japanese driver went to the top in the next round ahead of team-mate Tadahiko Sahashi while what was to become the last run of the day for the leading drivers produced an Infinity 1-2-3 led by Lamberto Collari from Matsukura and Sahashi with Greiner fourth.  For the day it was Matsukura’s FP6 time that was the fastest of the day registering a 53.890-seconds 3-consecutive lap time compared Pietsch’s 53.668 from the previous day’s rocket round FP4.

Mugen MBX8T & MBX8T Eco 1/8th truggy kits

Mugen have announced the soon release of their new MBX8T nitro and MBX8T Eco electric 1/8th truggy kits. Both use the successful MBX8 buggy as a base with the trucks featuring a new 3mm aluminium chassis for improved handling and consistency in bumpy conditions as well as improved overall steering thanks to greater stability. HTD high traction differentials come as standard, ensuring better acceleration, longer runtimes and more consistent handling especially in rougher track conditions. The larger oil volume ensures great consistency in long mains and improved traction in lower grip conditions. Part of the drivetrain package are also new straight-cut 10T bevel and 46T conical gears – again helping with acceleration, runtime and efficiency. The diffs are housed in new front and rear gearboxes that help to quicker extract the diffs from the chassis while new suspension hangers further help with maintenance and drivability. Also new in the suspension department are box-shaped suspension arms with arm stiffeners. They make for reduced flex while adding durability and optional inserts allow to fine-tune overall arm flex. Other new parts include a lightweight 1-piece wing mount for a lower centre of gravity with the wing mount being height adjustable to have additional control over downforce and jump characteristics. A lightweight high downforce wing helps with cornering and an updated carbon fibre radio plate – for the nitro kit – rounds out the package. The MBX8T trucks are decked out with Pro-Line body shells and they also include clamping servo saver nuts, updated front and rear shock towers as well as universal-type centre driveshafts.

Jon Howells wins at Ledbury Winter Series Rd1

This past weekend Ledbury held the first of its Winter Series races and also the first round to count towards the joint Ledbury/Brookthorpe inter club series. The event was well attended. A mixture of 43 nitro, ebuggy and truggy drivers turned up on an initially foggy Sunday morning. Thankfully, the fog lifted giving the track blue skies and sunshine for the majority of the day. Team Associated driver Jon Howells took TQ, having taken three from four rounds. Tekno driver Jake Knight would line up 2nd with CML driver Lloyd Pitt 3rd. On to the main event, Lloyd Pitt had a great start to take the lead, and maintained that for the first part of the race. Jon Howells then regained control to pull away from Lloyd. Back in third and fourth Jake Knight and Chris Lovell were having a good battle until Jake was taken out by back markers allowing Chris to chase down second. He managed to catch and pass Lloyd with only a couple of laps remaining, so Jon took the win, Chris was 2nd and Lloyd 3rd.
