Volker tops first controlled practice at Worlds

Ronald Volker has set the pace in the first controlled practice at the Electric Touring Car World Championships in South Africa. With finally things turning official after 10 rounds of free practice, the Yokomo driver set the fastest 3-consecutive seeding laps ahead of yesterday’s free practice leader Bruno Coelho, the pre-race favourites separated by just 2/10ths around the large Welkom track.  Behind, Viktor Wilck put in the 3rd fastest time, the 2016 podium finisher only 8/100ths off Coelho. Christopher Krapp was next up with the fourth quickest time ahead of Alexander Hagberg with Freddy Sudhoff completing the Top 6.  Tyre management was an important element of CP1 with drivers having to run new tyres in the opening two controlled practices before reusing them for CP3 and more importantly the opening qualifier which takes place this evening.

Serpent F110 S4 Prototype – First images

During this week’s 2018 IFMAR ISTC World Championships, held in Welkom, South Africa, Serpent’s David Ehrbar is running a prototype of the forthcoming S110 S4 1/10th formula car. David had his first roll out of the car in China in the days before making his way onto Welkom for the race. Officially still a prototype, it was finished just the night before he arrived to test in China, the car is the basis for their upcoming kit release which will be known as the F110 S4. Key features of the car are a new rear wing mounting system which is now mounted to the main chassis plate and not to the pod as before. The car has also moved away from using side links to using bearings which David says makes the car more linear especially when cornering and accelerating at the same time.

ARC R8S 1/8th stock pan car kit

Following a first set of teaser images ARC have released more information on their new R8S 1/8th stock pan car kit. Developed for the growing class of “rigid”, suspension-less stock 1/8th electric pan cars, the vehicle builds on a carbon fibre main chassis plate with a floating front end and a chassis-mounted, rigid rear suspension. The front suspension utilises O-rings to absorb bumps while providing more controlled cornering with different O-ring hardnesses allowing to fine-tune the steering characteristics. The suspension geometry is adjustable in terms of caster, camber and track width while the steering allows to use different Ackermann setting, again in order to adapt overall steering behaviour. The transmission is made up using a single high-torque belt and it uses large diameter hard-anodised aluminium belt pulleys and and a spur gear adapter that accepts the 1st gear main gears of the R8.1 nitro car – ensuring for swift and easy gear ratio changes. In order to suit a variety of needs, the car is usable with almost every battery configuration imaginable, be it a 4S brick pack or dual 2S batteries mounted in laydown of back-to-back configuration, while the car also takes 2S shorty packs to reduce overall weight and lower the centre of gravity. The R8S will accept all standard 1/8th on-road body shells and tyres and it will hit stores this August.

Mugen MRX6R radio plate stiffener

Coming from Mugen and made for their MRX6R 1/8th on-road car is a carbon fibre radio plate stiffener. The V-shaped brace connects the front bulkhead with the steering bellcrank which results in reduced front end flex and thus greater stability and steering precision when running on high-grip tracks. Using the part will also make steering reaction more consistent. The part is made from high-quality carbon fibre and a direct fit.
