Joseph Quagraine wins Finnish 1/8th off-road champs

JQ Products’ Joseph Quagraine has won this year’s Finnish 1/8th off-road national championship for the 3rd time in a row. This year’s series showed some promising signs of a new generation of drivers getting into the fight for wins, with Joona Haatanen, Max Mört, and Joonas Hyvärinen all showing great form and huge improvements this year. In the 4th and final round Joseph (JQ/Reds/AKA) came out successful in front of Jarno Siltanen (Mugen/Novarossi/Beta) and Samppa Orhanen (Kyosho/Alpha/Beta). In the overall championship Ari Heinonen (Kyosho/Alpha/Beta) took the runner-up spot behind Joseph with Joona Haatanen (AE/Novarossi/JC) completing the top 3.

Kyosho MP9 coloured side pods

To match with their various colour MP9 receiver and battery boxes Kyosho soon have corresponding chassis side pod sets available. Given the photos Kyosho’s Yuichi Kanai released the pods come in orange, yellow, green and white colour to replace the standard black parts with more colourful ones. More information, such as availability, should surface soon.

Active Hobby Products 84 pitch touring car gears

Following Xenon’s announcement to test and possibly produce ultra-fine 84 pitch main and pinion gears for 1/12th scale pan cars, Active Hobby Products from Japan has gone a step further and now announce the release of 84 pitch gears for electric touring cars. The main gears will become available as 128T to 146T variants in 2 tooth increments while the corresponding pinions will be of 44T to 51T size. It is understood that using the gears, that become available in October, will make for an even more efficient power supply compared to 64 pitch gears with the main gears being made from a special delrin material for wear and durability while the pinions will be made from 7075 aluminium.

Exotek XB4 12mm rear hex adapters 7mm offset

New from Exotek and made for the Xray XB4 are 7mm wide 12mm wheel hex adapters for the rear end of the buggy. They are made to fit Team Associated and Kyosho style 12mm hex wheels on the rear of the buggy and make for a wheel width of 243mm which is 4mm narrower than with Exotek’s 9mm offset adapters. The precision machined clamping design hexes are available in Xray orange or black colour and a direct fit.

JTP RC Force & Chico T-shirts

IFMAR World Champion Jared Tebo has new merchandise to offer in the form of the Force and Chico design shirt. Starting with the Force, the shirt offers a clean and simple design with a little edgyness. It has the JTP RC circle logo centred in an abstract rectangle design on the front, followed by the JTP RC logo on the back lower right corner. The white screenprint is done on a blue shirt.

How was it allowed to happen that an entire industry was put at risk for 12 days. I mean the track for the 15th running of the 1:8 Offroad World Championship must have been the most written about bits of land to host an r/c race but no one raised the human risk associated by its proximity to Europe’s most active volcano!!! Had Mount Etna acted up it could have been the final nail in the coffin for 1:8 Offroad. Having said that the mass deaths caused by the rivers of molten lava would surely mean an amazing future for the sport as the highly qualified online RC experts would finally get the calling they so much deserve to fill all job vacancies. For all the negative pre-event press that was published and on which those online experts fed like piranhas the World Championships in Sicily from where i saw it was, as IFMAR events go, a decent meeting. Although not a good benchmark to be working off, the event was a huge improvement on Argentina two years earlier.

The Worlds according to Ruona – Worlds afterthoughts

Better late than never? I guess that is my theme for this entry as we all recover from the long world championship event. It seems everyone got sick after the event too which has led to a long recovery and hang-over. I ask my myself immediately following the 60 minute A-final event. So if you win on Sunday or in this case on Saturday, do you sell on Monday? That is why we are all there right? A promotion to help ignite sales of the product. Everyone should be lined up to buy all the latest product that was on the winning ride starting with the Hot Bodies D812….right?
