Durango desperately seeking Hupo

Durango desperately seeking Hupo

Team Durango have taken a rather unconventional approach to gain the services of multiple European Champion Hupo Honigl, by posting on their official blog stating that they are “actively trying to attract Hupo Honigl back to Team Durango”. Pointing out that the Austrian has previously driven for the Durango team back in 2006, when he used one of the then handmade chassis’, they feel that they had to take this approach in the face of ‘mega bucks RTR companies’ also trying to secure his services. Durango want to have the current Tamiya and LRP team driver at the controls of their DEX410 1/10th scale 4wd buggy and soon to be released DNX408 1/8th scale buggy and believe that together they can grow to expand into other classes including the design and production of a 2wd buggy chassis. We contacted the current European 2wd Champion to get his reaction:

It would be great to race for Durango again and I did enjoy working with Gerd Strenge in the past, but I have some contracts still in place and I can’t make any decisions on my future until the time is right.

Chad’s TQ runs for 1/8 Truck and Buggy came from round 1 of qualifying, in the Short Course class Jeremy Kortz TQed round 1 but Chad took the TQ time by 1 second in round 2. In the 1/8 Truck main, Chad lead from the start and never looked back, the main was 10min long and he completed it without a pit stop winning from Losi drivers Steve Burnside and DJ Silva. The 1/8 Buggy main was a similar affair, however Chad had some pressure early on from Hyper driver Scott Wagner. Jeremy Kortz got a bad start in the beginning keeping him from the up front battle between Wagner and Bradley. Chad ended up winning by half a lap over Scott Wagner with Jeremy Kortz taking the 3rd spot, both driving Hyper 9 2.0.
