For the 3rd round of the British 200mm Championship we visited the excellent Halifax circuit in West Yorkshire. The venue has recently undergone big improvements with a new raised pit lane and fantastic covered pits, in preparation for the upcoming 1/8th European Championships. Saturday’s practice started off with many drivers suffering with rear stability on their cars but the traction gradually improved throughout the day. It was Mark Green setting the pace getting down to 16.2 lap times, Joe Kerry very close behind with his 747 on 16.3 laps. Onto qualifying and in round 1 it was Joe who took…

…also run their new cars for the first time. The lap times upfront are around the low 15 second bracket and if you can break consistently below this mark, then that is the golden ticket to having a good shot at TQ. The man to beat was Kyle Branson who was setting lap times consistently in the 14.7 second bracket and was clearly the class of the field with Mark Green being the next best. The remaining drivers of Wood, North, The Hastings duo, Dransfield, Thurston, Carr and Frost where in close pursuit. Sunday arrived with a dry track but…

Although showing strong pace yesterday, Mark Green and Alex Thurston both hit troubles in the first qualifier. Top 10 200mm after Round 1: 1. Joe Kerry – 18L in 313.00 2. …Mother Nature also made an appearance delaying race start 30 minutes with a quick shower. Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the 174 racers who attended, setting a new attendance record for FZRC Raceway. Once the weather cleared, it was time to go racing. In 1/8th E Buggy Jim Hess showed everyone how it’s done taking TQ and the first place spot with 16 laps/5:06. Bruce Bennett finished in 2nd place as Rob Didion, Mike Myers & Steve Baron separated by only 2 seconds to finish 3rd, 4th, and 5th. In the Stock Truck class Matt Bradford paced the field…

…the barriers. This was rectified by removing the banners which was directing condensation onto the track. This therefore had great implications on the heats that followed with cars hitting the barrier and breaking the front uprights due to wet patches on track. This however did not stop both championship contenders who set the pace with Mark Green recording a 20 lap 309 seconds result ahead of Kyle on 20 lap 314 seconds Round 2 and Mark Green recorded the same time but Kyle Branson ran out of fuel and would have been very close to Green’s TQ time. Andy North…

…and is now aiming to better his worst score in the 6 from 9 events to count format. The remaining 2 drivers with a chance to snatch the title are Mark Green and Kyle Branson, who have missed racers due to European commitments during the year. The pre-event favourite by many was Kyle Branson who as showed consistently very fast pace throughout the season culminating in 4 TQ’s from 7 to date but with only 1 win due to bad luck in finals whilst clearly in the lead. Mark Green on the other hand was also confident of a good…
