Martin Bayer wins big at Bokor Cup 2009

Martin Bayer wins big at Bokor Cup 2009

One of the downsides of being so far out of a major city is that it makes you realize how much you depend on things you are used to having at your disposal. In my case this week, it was the internet. Unfortunately there was no hot spot I could drop by to send out my race reports this weekend, so I am sorry for the delay in the update. As we went to bed last night the forecast was for heavy storms and wind to rumble through the area, which had us all very worried, but as we awoke, we were very pleased to see that only a sprinkle hit us and soon the sun was bright as could be. We ran a total of 6 rounds of qualifying where a driver’s best 4 of the 6 rounds would be counted with points to determine which drivers would make the semi finals.

Adam Drake takes Buggy at NSS Rd2

Adam Drake takes Buggy at NSS Rd2

Adam Drake was in touch to tell us about the 2nd round of the Novarossi Summer series, which attracted 11 heats of drivers. In the buggy class it was Kyosho / Team Orion driver Cody King who TQ’d round one over Losi / Novarossi’s Adam Drake.  In round two the track was dusty and bumpy, but The Drake was able to TQ the round by more than 15 seconds over Cody and set a new overall fast time by one second. In the final Adam and Cody battled early on, but Cody broke something on the front end of his car at the 15min mark and this opened the door for Losi’s Matt Schreffler to take home second behind Drake, with Xray racer Chad Nevin claiming third.

Cragg & Martin take Southport BRCA National

Cragg & Martin take Southport BRCA National

oOple are reporting on the 4th round of the 2009 BRCA 1/10th off road National Championship series held last weekend at the popular Southport buggy track. After a domination by XFactory drivers during the 2WD series thus far, it was looking a similar story with XFactory cars taking the first couple of qualifiers in the hands of Phil Sleigh and Mark Stanley respectively. Round three saw Neil Cragg’s Associated B4 on top and to make it four different drivers from four, Danny McGee put his Losi/Atomic Carbon hybrid CR2 in the top spot. Despite some great pressure especially from Mark Stanley, Neil Cragg dominated the finals – winning all three legs to take his first 2WD National of the season. Reigning 4WD champion for the previous two years, Lee Martin, went out meaning business in the wet early morning of the 4WD event – taking the first three rounds of qualifying before Neil Cragg took the final round. Like Neil had done in 2WD – Lee Martin took all three legs to take the victory after some intense and exciting racing.

Ryan Maifield defends ROAR Truggy title

Ryan Maifield defends ROAR Truggy title

Utilizing his Factory Team RC8T and recently released Reedy 121 VR engine, Ryan Maifield dominated the competition at Leisure Hours Raceway in Joliet, IL at the ROAR 1/8 Truggy Nationals. In qualifying, Maifield lead the field each round by beating the best in the country time after time. Even after securing the top qualifying spot by round three, Maifield chose to run round four to test a chassis adjustment. Starting from the pole position for the main event, Maifield got off to a good clean start and never looked back. By going over nine minutes between pit stops his RC8T/Reedy 121 VR combination never missed a beat and lapped the field up to second place and set the single fastest lap time. By the conclusion of the 45-minute main event, Maifield had built a 13+ second lead over second place Jared Tebo, with Josh Wheeler in 3rd, and was the only driver to make 83 laps.

Renaud Savoya talks Euros with RB Products

Renaud Savoya talks Euros with RB Products

Following his dominant performance at the recent European Championships, double European Champion Renaud Savoya sat down with RB products at their headquarters in Fracne to talk about the event and get his thoughts on the event from practice to the final.

When I arrived in Austria, I was quite pessimistic considering the weather forecast for the week. The preparation during and following the warm-up would have been useless if the weather had been different. For the practice on Tuesday, the track was still wet and I made my first session in the sawdust. At this time, I wanted to see the evolution of the track and decided to change nothing on the car.

JConcepts dominate 2009 FSORS

Florida has always been one of the toughest places to race and home to some of the best drivers on the east coast. JR Mitch continued his Florida winning ways in the 1/8th buggy and truck class in the FSORS 2009 series. With JConcepts providing the tires, bodies, wheels and accessories JR dominated from the start, winning the series from JConcepts team mates Nick Angelidas 2nd, JP Tirronen 3rd, Jason Ruona 4th and Nathan Wincek in 5th. In the 1/8th truck division, JR once again took the win in front of Nathan Wincek in 2nd position, while Josh Talmadge, a relative newcomer to R/C, made a big splash onto the scene in 2009 by winning the 1/8th buggy sportsman class with just a year’s worth of R/C racing experience.
