The current IFMAR 1/8th World Champion Mark Pavidis was in attendance along with many other top drivers and when the dust settled from qualifying, it was the Losi 8ight racer Adam Drake that took the TQ by more thqn 3 seconds over HoBao’s Jeremy Kortz. The final was an exciting race with Losi’s Adam Drake and Kyosho’s Cody King, but just like round 4 of the JBRL it was Adam Drake that came out on top, with Cody King 2nd and Ryan Lutz 3rd.

Southport Nationals report by oOple

Southport Nationals report by oOple

Our friends at oOple are reporting on the recently held Southport National, the penultimate in the 2008 BRCA National series, which saw the 2WD title decided early, with another TQ and win for Ellis Stafford driving the XFactory X6. Ellis was in command and took three qualifying rounds to take the TQ, and won the second and third A final legs to take the meeting, and with the valuable points secure the 2WD championship title in the process. Neil Cragg had a surprise up his sleeve in the 4WD event, the new Yokomo B-Max4 had made it after all. After Yokomo flew around the world to deliver the car the Thursday before the event, Neil didn’t hold back, taking all four rounds of qualifying and the first two A final legs. Only a win from Lee Martin in leg three with Cragg second, stopped a ‘total domination’ from the Craggster.

Ryan Maifield confirmed at Reedy

Ryan Maifield confirmed at Reedy

Reedy has confirmed that Team Associated Factory Driver Ryan Maifield has signed to race Reedy’s all‐new .21 competition nitro engine for the remainder of the 2008 season and beyond. Input from a driver of Ryan’s caliber is instrumental in the development of an engine suitable for World Class competition. In Ryan’s first race with his new powerplant, the 2008 Summer Nitrofest at The Farm 2, he qualified on pole position and nearly led wire‐to‐wire to win in convincing fashion. Because The Farm 2 is the host of the 2008 IFMAR World Championships later this year, Maifield becomes an early favourite for the coveted title.

Hodapp takes victory at JBRL Rd5

Hodapp takes victory at JBRL Rd5

Kyosho and Slingshot Batteries have been in contact to report victories in Modified 2WD and Truck classes at round 5 of the series at Freedom Park in Camarillo, CA. Hodapp piloted his Kyosho RB5 to the win from the 3rd spot on the grid. Patience paid off for Hodapp as he followed the leaders for the first half of the race and then seeing a passing opportunity Hodapp made his move and never looked back as the rest of the field battled for precious series points. In the truck class, Hodapp started from the 2nd qualifying position with his prototype Kyosho truck and he again played it safe and followed the leader for several laps until his chance came a few laps into the main event. Once in the lead position, Hodapp never looked back crossing the line and taking the victory first time out with the truck.

Ellis Stafford takes BRCA 2wd crown

Ellis Stafford takes BRCA 2wd crown

Ellis Stafford has won the fifth round of the BRCA Championship at Southport, which has seen him take his third National crown. In just his second year with X Factory, Stafford took convincing wins in A-2 and A-3 to wrap up the 2008 Outdoor Championship. Ellis won the last two mains by 8 second each with a car that was obviously faster than anything else on the track.

Last year I was getting used to the entirely new concept of the mid-motor car. It’s just obvious to me that The New Math is faster, but there is a bit of a new driving style and that takes getting used to. But once I learned it, it was nothing but “go” from that point on. I’ve just gotten faster and faster the longer I drive this car, and I’m looking forward confidently to the worlds in ’09
