Robert Batlle wins Montpellier GP

The annual Montpellier GP, European season opener for the 1/8th off-road class, was held in France this past weekend. As usual the event attracted most of Europe’s 1/8th off-road aces and it was Italy’s Riccardo Berton (Kyosho) who would take the overall TQ courtesy of winning the opening three qualifiers. Spain’s Juan Carlos Canas (Mugen) would come in 2nd after the qualifiers. In the main final it was the duo of Davide Ongaro and Juan Carlos Canas who obtained the top spots, however from the depth of the field it was Mugen’s Robert Batlle who was after a fourth Montpellier win and so he would keep his head down and ultimately was able to get past the duo of Juan and Davide who weren’t able to challenge Robert. In the end Batlle would take the win from Juan Carlos 2nd and Davide 3rd as Riccardo Berton and David Ronnefalk (HB Racing) rounded out the top 3 podium result.

Phair & Maizer win at Indoor Northeast Series Rd2

Round 2 of the Indoor Northeast Series at was held at 46RC and it offered an awesome turnout and tight racing. With 104 entries in a really small building, the place was packed full. The track is very tight, 100 percent red clay, which was occasionally watered throughout the day, so the track tended to get dry towards the end of each qualifying round and the mains. There were three heats of 2WD Modified buggy and 4 heats of 4WD buggy. The mains were pretty stacked, with fast drivers in each A-main. In the 4WD main, Jared Phair avoided the wrecks and got out to a comfortable lead early on. However, track conditions were getting progressively inconsistent and went downhill about every two laps. The 2nd place driver caught up after a couple of bobbles, but after a last-lap final attempt at passing, he failed to do so and Jared held on for the win from Stephen Maizer 2nd and Ian Kiss 3rd. Over in 2WD it was Stephen Maizer with the win from Jared Phair Matt Nevoso in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
