Gosch & Ellis win at 2015 Archway Classic

Gosch & Ellis win at 2015 Archway Classic

SmacTrac of St. Charles, Missouri was host to the inaugural running of the Archway Classic. A world-class facility, backed by its very fast group of local racers, meant this event would have some fierce competition and with over 150 entries from all around the Midwest, a win at this race would cement a driver as a true threat at any track around the country. In the 2WD Modified Buggy class Matt Gosch, coming from the 3 spot on the grid, would go on to take the A-Main victory after close battles with Jonathan Burkhalter and Chris Baumgartner. In 4WD Modified Buggy Matt struggled to come to grips, setting him up for a 5th place starting position for the single 5 minute A. Aggressive driving early in the race let Matt find his way to 2nd place behind Josh Wheeler, who made an uncharacteristic mistake late in the race to allow Matt by for another A-main win, and a clean sweep of the Archway Classic. Elsewhere in the JConcepts 2WD Spec Tire class, Ben Ellis would take the TQ and win.

Ryan Lutz wins Nitro Truggy at US Open Fuel Champs

Ryan Lutz wins Nitro Truggy at US Open Fuel Champs

The inaugural US Open Fuel Championships race was held at the Fear Farm Raceway this past weekend. A number of Pro drivers made the journey and it was raced like the “old days” where there was just one class per vehicle. Tekno RC’s Ryan Lutz would have a mixed Nitro Truggy qualifier but he would end up with the TQ spot and in the main final and right from the tone Lutz was in front of TLR’s Ryan Maifield as the top four made a breakaway from the pack. Maifield would challenge Lutz early on but he started to fall back as the Tekno driver found his groove and began to pull away. Soon Lutz had a 5 second lead and it continued to grow. His closest competitors mid race both had issues thus allowing him an even greater margin to 2nd. In the end of the 45 min A-main Lutz was able to win by about 1.5 laps over his Tekno teammate Joe Bornhorst. Serpent’s Mike Truhe would round out the top 3.

Coelho wins in Slovakia to share EOS lead with Martin

Coelho wins in Slovakia to share EOS lead with Martin

World Champion Bruno Coelho kept Xray’s unbeaten record at the Hudy Arena intact by claiming his first Euro Offroad Series victory today with a dominant and important win in A3.  Going into the closing race of the Slovakian event, three drivers stood a chance of the Round 2 victory with Coelho needing to do the most to deny A1 winner Martin Wollanka and A2 winner Lee Martin the win.  Top Qualifier for his team’s home event, the Portuguese ace would put in a stunning drive to not just win the leg but set the all important fastest race time. Running 14 laps over the 5-minutes, the only driver to do so over the 3 legs, this would give him the tie break, all three drivers ending up on the same points with a win and 2nd each. While Martin would finish second to Coelho in the deciding race, Wollanka’s A2 winning time would secure the Austrian second with third meaning both the reigning champion and Coelho are now tied at the top of the points standings.
