Ari Heinonen wins at Winter Jumps Series Rd1

Ari Heinonen wins at Winter Jumps Series Rd1

Helsinki’s PKSRCA club recently hosted round one of the Finnish Winter Jumps Series. With a record 100+ entries field the series started into the new season and in Sunday’s 4WD race it was newly signed Xray driver Joel Valander who took the pole position for the A-mains with the only 20 lap runs in the qualifiers. The first two A-mains then were very hard for the pole sitter as front tyre problems meant he could not hold Ari Heinonen (Team Durango) behind. With wins in A1 and A2 Ari thus secured the overall win while Joel would take the final A-main to secure the runner-up spot from Markku Honkanen (Team Durango).

Aaron Stringer wraps up QLD Inter Club Series

Aaron Stringer wraps up QLD Inter Club Series

The SE QLD Inter Club Series concluded with the sixth and final round held at Meakin Park in Brisbane. In total over 300 drivers attended the series that was held over a six month period, visiting three clubs twice each over the event. Aaron Stringer was leading the series and he only needed to make the A-Main and finish in the top 5 to wrap up the title. Qualifying for the pre-event favourite did not go to plan at all and saw him finish in 30th place. Starting 9th in the C-final Aaron would move his way up through the lower finals and ultimately ended on the 11 spot for the A-final in which he had a blinder of a start and was up to around 6th place after lap 1. The job got much tougher after that and took another 10 minutes or so to round up the next five places. After that it was a battle between Aaron and Darren Perry. Aaron managed to reduce the lead down to under two seconds with about two minutes to go, but it wasn’t to be and Darren took the win with Aaron in second. The runner-up spot was then enough for Aaron to grab the overall title from Darren Perry in second and Sam Perry in third.

It began with Friday practice, qualifiers on Saturday using qual points and the main events on Sunday. Brett Kingsbury had the TQ in Nitro Buggy however Jason Ruona was starting in P2, and was going to apply pressure from the tone. As the two raced away in the early laps, Ruona moved into the lead and controlled the pace. As first pit stops cycled through, Kingsbury and Ruona had a comfortable lead and were working through some traffic taking the lead depending on mistakes. Kingsbury had to take an extended pit for repairs giving Ruona a huge lead. As time was winding down, an unfortunate flame out during the 2nd to last fuel stint took Ruona out of the lead but a quick restart would still get him out in second where he would stay till the end behind winner Leon McIntosh.
