Hartson doubles up in Round 2

Steven Hartson made it two out of two at the Reedy Race of Champions however the second win for the Associated driver came after a much more fraught & chaotic second encounter.  Also running in the same race defending champion Ryan Cavalieri would fall fowl of the chaos ending the race 7th having at one stage looked like a contender for a second win of the day.  In the other two races Jared Tebo, who got a third in Round 1, and Dustin Evans, who having started his opening race on pole ended up only 5th, would register their first wins.

In what came as a major shock to the sport, Horizon Hobby have now officially confirmed the departure of Adam Drake, a driver revered as one of the greatest ambassadors for the TLR brand.  In the official statement they said, ‘Horizon Hobby wishes to thank and acknowledge Adam Drake for his dedication and commitment throughout the years to Team Losi Racing and Horizon Hobby. Adam’s association with Team Losi Racing dates back to the early 1990s and his on-track speed and off-track sportsmanship have been consistent trademarks for over two decades. Adam has been a great asset to the team and ambassador for Horizon Hobby/Team Losi Racing and they wish him the very best for the future, both personally and professionally.’

Champion Cavalieri opens Reedy Race with win

Defending back to back champion Ryan Cavalieri got his quest for a fourth Reedy Race of Champions title off to the perfect start as he opened the 21st running of the event this morning at OCRC Raceway with a win in the first round of heads up racing.  The first of 12 rounds of racing also saw wins for former Champion Joern Neumann and 4WD World Champion Steven Hartson. One significant result for Round 1 was that of Ryan Maifield, the TLR driver & 2014 runner-up, having been drawn to start 9th, managed to work his way through the field to finish 2nd behind Neumann.

Maifield & Moller top practice at Reedy Race

Maifield & Moller top practice at Reedy Race

Ryan Maifield and Drew Moller topped practice for the 21st running of the Reedy Race of Champions at OCRC Raceway today in California.  Last year’s runner-up, Maifield took his TLR22 to the fastest lap time in the third and final round of 2WD practice ahead of team-mate & last year’s 2WD Open class winner JP Richards.  In 4WD it was new HB signing Moller who set the pace from defending Champion Ryan Cavalieri and Maifield, the Ryans best lap time separated by 0.001 of a second.

Naoto Matsukura joins Kyosho Factory offroad team

Team Kyosho International have announced that 4-time World Champion Naoto Matsukura has joined their factory offroad team. The multiple time Japanese National offroad Champion and current 4wd Vice World Champion will use the company’s line of 2wd and 4wd buggies. Naoto left Yokomo at the end of last year having raced both on and offroad for them and has subsequently joined Tamiya to race their electric touring car.

Tessmann heads 4WD practice at Reedy Race

After two rounds of 4WD practice at the Reedy Race of Champions in California, HB’s Ty Tessmann heads the pace with the Canadian setting the fastest lap time from Ryan Maifield and World Champion Steven Hartson.  Defending champion Ryan Cavalieri would end up fourth quickest despite pulling an arm off his Associated in the second practice.  With a best lap of 20.457, Tessmann was fastest by 0.140 from Maifield with Hartson running an almost identical time around the OCRC Raceway track to his former team-mate.

Rivkin sets early 2WD pace at Reedy Race

Up and coming offroad star Spencer Rivkin set the early practice pace in 2WD buggy at the 21st running of the Reedy Race of Champions. Having only signed a multi-year agreement with Team Associated and Reedy last month, the 16-year-old set the fastest lap of the morning at OCRC Raceway ahead the TLR’s JP Richards, Associated team-mate Steven Hartson and defending back to back champion Ryan Cavalieri.
