Hupo Hönigl doubles at Grand Prix of Russia

Hupo Hönigl doubles at Grand Prix of Russia

The Grand Prix of Russia 2014 was held at the huge Crocus Expo Facility in Moscow with almost 250 entries. The very well organised event was part of a huge hobby show and attracted thousands of hobbyists and spectators. The track was a typical European carpet track with wooden jumps and obstacles and due to the amount of drivers each class only had one 2 minute practise run, making it difficult for drivers to adapt to the track. In 1/8th E-Buggy and 2WD Modified Buggy Team C’s Hupo Hönigl was to take TQ and win beating Shin Adachi (Yokomo) and Jörg Tiit (Serpent) in 2WD while in E-Buggy Dmitry Malyshko took the runner-up spot. Elsewhere in 4WD Modified Buggy Shin came in 1st followed by Hupo and Jörg.

Yardy & Cragg win at BRCA 1/10th nats Rd1

Round 1 of the 2014 1/10th BRCA National Series ran under warm and sunny skies near Birmingham at the Kidderminster venue. The popular astroturf track saw Reedy/Team Associated factory driver Tom Yardy being the man to beat in the 2WD Modified Buggy class. Tom’s pole position start gave him the advantage he needed to hold off teammate Neil Cragg and always-fast Lee Martin for the overall win. Cragg came back with a vengeance on Sunday to dominate the first two legs of the 4WD Modified Buggy A Main and take the win while Yardy just missed the podium with a respectable fourth-place finish.

RB Challenge Norway Rd1 – Report

The first race of the six round RB Challenge in Norway was run with 62 drivers attending. The series is run on RB tyres and sees the nine fastest drivers from qualifying proceeding to the final with two drivers from the B-final as bump-ups. The TQ went to Bjorn Ivar Haug (Xray) and once the 40 minute final took off it was clear that the race was on between Bjorn Ivar and Team Associated driver Daniel Kobbevik with both drivers quickly pulling away from the field. 10 minutes into the race and Bjorn made a small mistake allowing Daniel to pass but Bjorn Ivar fought back eventually taking the lead again. Later on Daniel ran into trouble which resulted in three extra pit stops allowing Bjorn to cruise to the win. Daniel Kobbevik finally managed to grab the runner-up spot, Rune Karlsen (Xray) completed the podium.

Hartson 4WD Buggy win in Tacoma

Hartson 4WD Buggy win in Tacoma

Steven Hartson has taken the top honours in 4WD Buggy at the JConcepts Spring Indoor Nationals which was making its first visit to Tacoma R/C Raceway in Washington State.  With local racers stamping their authority on Mod Buggy, in 4WD it was first time visitor Hartson who wrapped up his first buggy victory of the 2014 series thanks to a win in A3 over JR Mitch and Tyler Vik.  With all three drivers in contention for the overall win going into A3, the closing race at Scott Brown’s track would see Top Qualifier Vik have contact with both his rivals, the Xray driver fairing the worst of both A3 incidents to finish third overall behind Mitch.

Schoettler takes the big win at JConcepts Indoor Nats

Schoettler takes the big win at JConcepts Indoor Nats

As if there was ever any doubt based on his blistering pace from the very start of the weekend, Michael Schoettler has taken the big win at the JConcepts Spring Indoor Nationals at Tacoma R/C Raceway.  Winning A1 with ease, A2 would prove a tougher affair for the Associated driver as fellow Tacoma racer Luke Smith mounted a challenge that would see him lead for four laps half way through the 5-minute encounter.  A coming together between the two, who are used to battling one another weekly at Scott Brown’s track, Schoettler retook the lead holding on to head home Smith by just under a second to claim a very popular overall 2WD Mod win.  In A3 Smith would go on to take an easy over Tanner Denney with Ryan Matesa seeing off a major challenge from Brent Thielke to finish third.  The result would see Smith & Matesa complete an all local talent podium with Thielke ending up as the best visitor with fourth overall.

Reno Savoya wins French EFRA GP

Reno Savoya wins French EFRA GP

The French EFRA GP was run in Noeux les Mines last weekend on what the drivers described as a great and technical track laid out by the CARCA club crew. The 3-day race attracted the majority of the French top-level drivers including Xray’s Reno Savoya whose weekend started disastrous as he got a good load of equipment stolen from his road car. Leaving the issues behind he was able to take the overall TQ for the Nitro Buggy final by taking 3 out of the 5 qualifying rounds. The finals then pretty much being a Reno show as he lead for the first 20 minutes, followed by some issues that let him drop in the ranking but he soon recovered to take the win 12 seconds ahead of Jerome Aigoin and Jerome Sartel. Lorenzo Crolla finished 4th with Jean-Pierrick Sartel in tow.
