Fresh off qualifying for the A Main in 2WD Modified Short Course at the ROAR Nationals, Justin Gilkison dominated the Pacific North West Short Course Shootout in 2WD Modified Short Course and Open SC Buggy qualifying by taking TQ in both classes. He then went on to win with his X Factory SC and SCB and he also took the third place in 4WD SC.

With the 2013 JConcepts Clash being less than three weeks away the organisers have send out an update on the proceedings. 440 pre-entries are already in for the most unique event of the year that sees pro drivers like Ryan Maifield, Dustin Evans and JR Mitch all signed up and ready to battle once again. 2WD modified, 1/8th nitro expert and 1/8th e-buggy remain the largest classes of competition and a fresh track layout designed by Paul Wynn is in the finishing stages. The track layout flows like water, the shading on the drawing represents elevation which is a focus inside Flowood R/C park along with rhythmic jump sections and speedy chicane driving. Katelynn Ansari, current Monster Energy girl cover model and 2013 JConcepts Clash girl, will be in attendance Saturday and Sunday for photo opportunities, promotion and Sundays awards presentation. This past weekend had the ROAR Region 5 championships held at Summit R/C in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Drivers from Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio were in attendance with multiple drivers from Team Associated, Durango, and Kyosho to battle for the title. TLR’s JP Richards raced his 22 2.0 2WD buggy for the first time where he took TQ honours and went on to win the 2013 ROAR Region 5 title. In Pro-2 JP was again on fire with his doubled up by taking TQ again with his 22 SCT where he went on to win the A-Main taking home his 2nd ROAR Regional Modified title.

Atsushi Hara, who only last Friday made the shock announcement that he was leaving HB, has taken the opening round of qualifying at the FEMCA 1:8 Offroad Championships in China. Racing a Mugen, which the former World Champion went out and bought himself in a hobby shop in Thailand, the Japanese ace set the pace in the first of six 10-minute runs by just over 5-seconds from Korea’s Dani Choi and with Japanese Kyosho driver Dani Hiroki completing the Top 3 at Beijing Model Sports Association’s freshly built FT Offroad track. With a difficult Visa procedure keeping defending Champion Kyle McBride away from contesting this year’s FEMCA Championship, the Far East’s equivalent of the EFRA European Championships, and thereby denying the Australian the opportunity to go for a third consecutive title, Hara’s TQ run endorses his status as pre-event favourite to take back the title he previously held.

The sixth round of the JBRL took place at Rainman’s Hobby and Raceway and it was Tekno RC driver Barry Baker who put his SCT410 in first place followed by Ryan Dunford and Nicholas Blais. In the 1/8th E-buggy class Tekno driver Chris Blais had a flawless first place finish with his EB48. Chris was followed closely by Ryan Dunford and his brother and fellow Tekno driver Nick Blais placing in a respectable 3rd.

The fourth round of the Swiss 1/10th buggy nationals took place at the dusty and slippery Dielsdorf track that recently received a new and very tricky double jump. Team Associated’s Patrick Hofer dominated the 4WD qualifying and took TQ with his B44.2. For the A finals Patrick decided to take the risk and take the dreaded double in one jump and this got him a clear win in the first final leg. Come the second final Hofer got into trouble early in the race when crashing and dropping back the field. But by taking the double in one leap every lap he was able to shorten the distance to leader Peter Forster and he eventually overtook him by using the double to pass the Yokomo driver. This handed Patrick the overall win on front of Peter Forster and Patrick Vogt (Team Durango).

The 6th round of the Jimmy Babcock Racing League Electric Series made its first stop at the new Rainman’s Hobby and Raceway in Bakersfield, California. With every new facility comes the challenge of learning the surface and dialling in the vehicles. So Team Associated racers Kody Numedahl, Kevin Motter, Nick Wautlet, Jimmy Barnett and others all made the trip north of the L.A. valley to compete at the brand new facility. In the 2WD Modified class it was all Numedahl and his B4.2 Factory Team with Centro mid-motor conversion. Cody dominated the competition, taking the TQ by seven seconds and winning the main by half a lap. In the Truck Modified class, Kevin Motter and his T4.2 Factory Team got out to a good start and took over the lead early, never to relinquish the number 1 position on way to the victory. In the 2WD 13.5T Buggy Super Stock class, Nick Wautlet started from the second grid position, but made quick work to take over the lead on the way to victory. Next up is round 7 at Palm Desert R/C Raceway the weekend of September 14.

Nor Cal Hobbies will host the 2013 Off-Road Kings race on the weekend of the 8th of September. Run on a Kevin Jelich build track the race will see the attendance of Jared Tebo, Ryan Cavalieri and other pro drivers and is held in several buggy and truck classes including invitational 2WD and 4WD Open Buggy, Open and 17.5T 2WD, Open 4WD, Open Stadium Truck, 2WD and 4WD Short Course as well as an 1/8th E-buggy class. The invitational classes and the Top 21 of 17.5T Buggy will run in a Reedy Race format. More information can be found here.
