Sterian Folev wins Bulgarian Off-road Nats Rd3

Sterian Folev wins Bulgarian Off-road Nats Rd3

The third round of the Bulgarian Off-road Nationals took place near Sofia, in the village of Bankya in perfect weather. The track presented to drivers was rough, hard to handle and including some very high jumps. In the Buggy class the top qualifier was Mario Vutov followed by Petar Gergov, Emil Karamfilov, Sterian Folev and Dimitar Leskovski completing the top 5. The 45-minute-long final proved that a race is won with endurance and not just with speed. Mario Vutov was the fastest guy on the track but unfortunately had battery issues and lost about 10 minutes. Emil Karamfilov also wasn’t able to finish due to a throttle servo failure. The battle for first place was between Sterian Folev and Petar Gergov, both showing very good pace throughout the final. Georgi Minkov took advantage of Gergov’s slight battery issue at the end of the event and finished second. After the victory for Sterian Folev, who is having a very successful debut year, the fight for the title is now forming. Dimitur Leskovski and Georgi Minkov both have 126 points with Sterian Folev running close behind with 124. Petar Gergov is with 118. The next race is in Varna in 2 weeks where we see the national champion crowned for 2010.

Chris Cristo cleans up at JConcepts NE Championship

X-Factory are reporting that their drivers Mike Wilder, Chris Cristo, and Brian Kinwald took home lots of silverware from the JConcepts North East Championship race held at R/C Excitement in Fitchburg, Mass. last weekend. Cristo absolutely dominated the 13.5 buggy and truck classes, TQing and winning each by a lap or more with his X-6 Squared and X-60. In stock short course, Cristo again TQd and won, this time with his SCX-60. Wilder, who qualified 3rd in mod truck, battled back and forth for most of the race with several other trucks, taking a slim lead with two laps to go and holding on for the win in his X-60. Mike also qualified and finished 3rd in pro mod short course. Brian Kinwald qualified fourth in mod buggy and through the 8 minute A main methodically worked his way to the front, finally taking over first place with just a few laps to go.  On the second-to-last corner, the second place buggy ran into the back of Brian’s X-6 Squared, and the ensuing crash allowed the third place car through for the win, with Brian finishing third. In pro mod short course, Brian qualified second with his SCX-60 and finished there, making it X Factory 2 & 3.

Jörn Neumann dominates 4wd German Nats

Jörn Neumann dominates 4wd German Nats

The German 4wd Nationals were held last weekend in Schenkenhorst, near Berlin with 72 drivers attend the event. The club did a good job preparing the track, which is normally for 1/8th offroad, so high speed for 1/10th cars but really nice to drive. On Saturday all drivers had 3 practice rounds and after that qualifying started with 3 rounds on Saturday and 2 more on Sunday and the best 2 out of 5 to count. Jörn Neumann took the TQ spot, Benni Gröschel was 2nd and Marc Rheinard 3rd. The finals saw a battle between these three drivers, but in the end Jörn could win the first two A-Mains and the German Championship with his LRP powered Yokomo, adding to his 2wd title he won last month. Second place went to Durango/LRP driver Benni Gröschel while in 3rd was Marc Rheinard with his Tamiya/Speed Passion. In the stock class Ebi Beck took an easy win.

Thanks to Jörn Neumann for the report.

Maifield is ROAR 1:8 Electric National Buggy Champion

Maifield is ROAR 1:8 Electric National Buggy Champion

2010 marks the first year of an official ROAR National Championship for 1:8 electric buggy and truggy and Team Associated’s Ryan Maifield traveled to Northern California to battle for the right to be called the first 1:8 Electric National Champion against a group of top level talent from every major manufacturer. The NorCal Hobbies track located near San Francisco Bay provided the perfect facility to crown a National Champion.  With technical rhythm sections and a large track layout, both the driver and equipment were equally challenged. For Maifield and his Reedy/LRP powered RC8Be two first place finishes in the IFMAR qualifying format meant he started on pole for the triple “A” main events on Sunday. As the tone sounded to start A1, Maifield jumped out to the lead and never looked back. 10 perfect minutes of driving by the Team Associated star put him one victory away from being crowned champion. A little over an hour later, A2 got underway and again Maifield jumped out to a strong start ahead of the other nine competitors. As time ticked off the clock, other racers tried to match the pace of Maifield but none could match his consistency lap after lap.  At the conclusion of A2, again it was Maifield who took the victory leading every lap of A1 & A2 and with two main event wins was crowned as the inaugural ROAR 1:8 Electric National Buggy Champion.
