Paul Lemieux wins ROAR Paved Nats

Paul Lemieux wins ROAR Paved Nats

This year’s ROAR Paved Nationals was held last weekend in Frederick Maryland at the HobbyTown USA, also known as the Coliseum. Qualifying for the touring car race saw Paul Lemiuex take the top spot in Modified, while his Xray team mates Robbie Dodge and Mike Herald Jr took TQ in both the Super Stock and Stock classes respectively. In the finals it was a pretty straight forward affair with Paul winning the first 2 A-mains unchallenged to take the National title ahead of Josh Cyrul and Keven Herbert. It was a similar affair in the other 2 classes, with both TQ men getting it done in the first 2 mains to each secure their respective National titles with Robbie Dodge winning Super Stock from Josh Cyrul and Keven Herbert again, while in Stock Mike Herald Jr won ahead of Austin Vacek and Dave Bowser.

Czech Grand Prix – Announcement

Czech Grand Prix - Announcement

The organisers of the Czech GP, Lestr Models together with Mibosport, have been in touch to let us know about the International electric touring car event that takes place from the 6th to the 8th of November. With the event run as the Grand Prix Prague in recent years, a name change and change of venue to Moravian city Hrotovice sees a fresh new beginning for this race. In view of the fact that the third round of the Euro Touring Series will take place at the same venue in late January they have adjusted the rules in a such way that this event could also become a warm-up for the ETS race and consequently they are going to use Xenon Max 32 tyres for all classes and Speed Passion Competition 3.0 13,5T motors for the Pro Stock class.

Azri Amri wins Malaysian Nationals Rd3

Azri Amri wins Malaysian Nationals Rd3

Round 3 of the Malaysian National Championship (MNC) took place recently at the usual venue at Titiwangsa Track in the heart of kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its been a few months since round 2 and there have been quite a number of changes to the drivers line up and the big news is of course the return of Azri Amri to the electric touring scene who is now driving for Team ORCA Racing with his Yokomo BD5. The other driver who has made a switch is Mr. Jackie Siow, the 2008 MNC Overall Champion and now driving for Team ORCA and Xray. The weather is as usual, not too sunny in the morning and all racers were hoping that the weather would hold up long enough to be able to complete the full race distance as there was a tendency to rain in the afternoon in Malaysia. The first qualifying saw Azri, Jackie and Tamiya driver Norazam finish the qualifying in those positions and as the weather got better, the sun came out and warrmed the track slightly and thus prevented any of the drivers to better their times in later rounds.

Neil King takes Rd8 of BRCA 200mm Nats

Neil King takes Rd8 of BRCA 200mm Nats

The final round of the British 200mm Nationals took place last weekend at Halifax and it was a wet weekend with most of Saturday written off due to the weather. On Sunday it was wet all morning, and in the first round of qualifying newly crowned Champion Kyle Branson TQ’d just in front of Neil King, while in the second round Neil put in a good drive and tyre choice and took TQ with the track still wet. In the third round it started to dry out but around 5 minutes before the quickest heat went out it rained and while Kyle chose the wrong tyres, Neil would go faster with Simon Wood jumping to second with Kyle dropping to third. In the final round of qualifying the track had dried quite a lot and this time Kyle made a good tyre choice, as only half the track was wet he went out on a rubber tyre, and took TQ just in front of Robin Hammet. Young Alex Thurston driving for Kyosho qualified seventh. For the Final it was dry and pole man Branson got off to a good start leading from start to finish, but when he came down from the rostrum he found that he had finished second as on his second fuel stop when exiting the pit lane he had hit a damp patch causing the car to roll over the line, landing back on its wheel, but for some reason it didn’t count the lap. This gave Serpent driver Neil King a very popular win with Kyle Branson in second and Joe Kerry in third. The Championship was already over with Kyle taking the title at the last round, ahead of Johnathan Dobney in second and Chris Slater in third.

Thanks to Kyle Branson for the report.

Mobers does double at European Pan Series Rd1

The opening round of the European Pan Series for 1/12th scale took place last weekend in Germany and saw just over 40 drivers competing in both the Pro Stock and Modified classes, with the former being the most popular. Serpent driver Markus Mobers, one of the series organisers, took the top qualifying spot in both classes and would go on to win both classes with European Stock class Champion Marc Fisher taking the runner up spot both times. In the Pro Stock class it was Vesa Yli that took the 3rd spot, while in the modified class it was Daniel Sieber that was 3rd. Interestingly Mobers was testing a new prototype S120 link car in the Modified class, while retaining the T-bar for Pro Stock.

Alvarado & Báez win Rd9 of Puerto Rico Nats

Alvarado & Báez win Rd9 of Puerto Rico Nats

Round 9 of the Puerto Rico Nationals were held last weekend and after 2 rounds of qualifiers the racing got underway in the afternoon, with 45 minute A-Mains in all categories. In the Sedan class, TQ spot went to Andy Báez, but early problems in the main drop him down out of a podium spot, making it easy for Kyosho team driver Pedro Alvarado to take the win with 5 laps advantage over 2nd position, Mugen Driver Juan Rodríguez, with RC America driver Tory Santiago in 3rd. In the 1/8 class Mugen Team Driver Andy Báez set the pace and took the win in an easy victory over team mate Fernando Méndez in second and new Kyosho driver Jaime Ramos.

Jilles Groskamp dominates the Asian Open

Jilles Groskamp dominates the Asian Open

The Asian Open took place at the RC Addict raceway in Bangkok, one of the World’s best RC tracks. New Team Orion signing Jilles Groskamp went on to take a great TQ in the 10 minutes qualification, using the latest Team Orion Alpha engine and fuel in the still prototype Shepherd 1/10 on road car. The race also attracted World class drivers like Surikarn C. and Meen V. and so it was sure to be a great battle, and it was for the first 15 minutes in the one hour long final. The final started with pole man Jilles asking for a 10 minutes delay to fix a broken one way bearing and so he would have to start from dead last position. But with a sensational start, it took him 3 minutes to close in to the leading pack of Surikarn and Meen, and for 15 minutes the battle was on, with the lead changing often due to the different fuel stops strategies. After 20 minutes it was clear that it was going to be Jilles’ race and only a technical problem could stop him taking the win. With 3 minutes to go Jilles pushed once more, to set the fastest lap times of the race ending up with an advantage of 7 laps over Meen, who took the runner up spot.

Chris Tosolini wins Season Finale in Greece

Chris Tosolini wins Rd5 in Greece

The 5th and final round of the Greek 1/10 Nitro National Championships took place at the Arena Track in Aspropyrgos recently with two special guests, Chris Tosolini and Mirko Rossi. Greek Federation EL-ME in cooperation with Kyosho Hellas have continued their effort to improve the level of radio control races in their country this year and gave Greek modelers the opportunity to compete with multiple World finalist Chris Tosolini and collect knowledge for their Sirio engines from Mirko Rossi. Chris Tosolini dominated the race holding best lap, TQ and 1st position, this is despite the fact that he spent the whole weekend giving setup tips and advice to all racers, instead of focusing on his car. Mr. Rossi on the other hand took the opportunity to help racers better understand their Sirio engines and clutches with tips for mileage and performance. Runner up on the day was Kostas Sidiropoulos, with Spiros Piknis taking 3rd.
