Schumacher Winter Series Rnd 4 – Report

December 11th would play host to round 4 of the Schumacher Winter Series presented by the Louth Radio Control Car Club.  On offer was the 17.5 blinky touring car class and support class, with 50 drivers assembling at the venue in Lincolnshire in the U.K.  Plunging temperatures outside but some hot action on track as the racers took on four qualifying rounds before a single legged final. After four rounds the TQ spot went to Alex Brocklebank, his Schumacher mi8 the car to beat all day.  Alex would take 3 of the four qualifying rounds to take the top spot. Second on the grid was returning racer Ricky Lee and his Awesomatix, Ricky the only driver to put a TQ round together apart from Alex.  Another Schumacher of Daniel Burks would line up third on the grid, from Vulcan rc racer Callum Chapman who would secure fourth.  Top lmp racer Adam Mackman would make a return to touring cars with his Schumacher Mi8 and would line up 5th with some consistent runs, and Daniel Leonard would round out the top six and take the final a final spot with his Awesomatix.  Daniel would show the pace in the final quaking round to take 2nd in the run.

Branson wins second round of Essex Winter Series

Round 2 of the Essex Winter Series presented by Infinity took place over the weekend with Kyle Branson taking the win.  In qualifying Branson topped the first three qualifiers before having issues in Q4 which was topped by Alex Thurston securing the Capricorn driver 2nd on the grid.  A string of P2 times would give the Xray of Harley Eldridge 3rd on the grid ahead of Schumacher’s Andy Murray.  While Thurston and Eldridge pushed Branson in the single leg final they were not able to pass the British National Champion and they finished as they qualified.  In Stock it was Zak Finlay who took the TQ and win with Billy Fletcher second and Tony Broad third.  Starting from pole Shane Chipolina won Front Wheel Drive with his Schumacher while in the Junior E class James Snashall took the victory having also started from the front of the grid.

Greiner wins Miami Nitro Grand Prix

Dominic Greiner has capped off an impressive 1:8 nitro onroad season with victory at the Miami Nitro Grand Prix.  Qualifying second at Homestead RC Raceway, the factory Capricorn driver took the win ahead of Top Qualifier Filippo Domanin.  The Xray driver led the race for more than 100 laps before European Champion Greiner took control to win with 161 laps completed at the end of the 45-minute final.  Behind Domanin, Infinity’s Carmine Riola completed the podium in Florida followed by the ARC of Dutch veteran John Ermen and Hotrace Tyres’ Nicola Marrone.  In 1:10, Top Qualifier Teemu Leino took the win for Infinity with Capricorn’s Thilo Diekmann only 1.5-seconds back.  Having qualified fourth, Chris Tosolini found his way passed third place starter Bobby Horan to secure the final step on the podium.  In 1:8 GT, it was victory for Serpent thanks to Italy’s Gabriele Paloschi.  Behind the pole sitter Joaquin Desoto Junior and Martin Bayer completed the Top 3.

Domanin & Leino TQ at Miami Nitro Grand Prix

Young Italian talent Filippo Domanin and veteran Finn Teemu Leino are the Top Qualifiers at the Miami Nitro Grand Prix.  In 1:8, Xray driver Domanin set the fastest qualifying time around Homestead RC Raceway in the 2nd of the three qualifiers, failing to finish Q1 & Q3.  Behind him, Capricorn’s Dominic Greiner set the second fastest time also in Q2 with Infinity’s Carmine Riola completing the Top 3.  In 1:10, Leino also only managed to complete only 1 of the three qualifiers but it was all he need to put his Infinity in pole position for the final.  Thilo Diekmann would set the second fastest time as his Capricorn top the time sheets for the third & final qualifier.  Florida racer Bobby Horan posted the third fastest time ahead of former Miami Nitro Grand Prix Chris Tosolini.  In 1:8 GT, Serpent’s Gabriele Paloschi claimed the overall TQ ahead of Xray’s Martin Bayer and the Capricorn of Natanaele Senesi.

New MIBO International Race announced

Mibosport is excited to announce that it is bringing a new international indoor event to the calendar in 2023 with the inaugural running of the Mibo International Race on March 3-5 in the Czech Republic.  Pre pandemic, the Mibosport Cup was well established as one of Europe’s top annual indoor race series attracting some of the biggest names in racing to the town of Hrotovice. Now following the series’ forced break, Mibosport is looking to bring back the racing in style to the Sport V Hotel with the creation of one big exciting weekend for both onroad and offroad racers.  A venue that always proved hugely popular with racers for the sheer convenience of being able to race, eat and sleep all under one roof, the Mibo International Race is also node to the past when individual international race weekends were once common and made up the indoor season.  The Mibo International Race will see separate onroad and offroad tracks provide two stages for a full weekend of racing action. Set to be a who’s who of electric racing scene, the story of the inaugural event is set to be shared with the world as it unfolds with Red RC confirming they will make a return visit to Hrotovice.  As someone who still enjoys racing himself, Mibosport founder Michal Bok and his race crew are finalising a number of exciting plans for the event, details of which be announced over the coming weeks.  So save the date, March 3-5, 2023, and get ready to be part of the next exciting new chapter in Hrotovice’s racing history.

Ollie Payne leaves Roche

A partnership that started out when he was one of the rising stars of 1:12, top international 1:12 racer Ollie Payne has announced he is leaving the World Champion manufacturer Roche.  The multiple British National Champion achieved a number of significant successes with Roche, the most recent of which included a double win at the Masters of Foam event in Belgium.  Announcing the news on his Facebook page, the IFMAR World Finalist said, “I would like to thank Max Ma and Roche for all the support I have had over the years which has enabled me to win and podium many events but now I feel now is a time for new opportunities and a new beginning. Thank you to all the people that have supported Roche in my time as a factory driver”.

Mazzeo joins Capricorn

Two weeks after announcing his departure from Serpent, Alessio Mazzeo has revealed his switch to Capricorn.  The Italian follows Dominic Greiner and Merlin Depta in joining the Italian manufacturer from Serpent with all three set to represent Patrizio Rossi’s brand at the Miami Nitro Grand Prix this week in Florid of which Mazzeo is the defending Nitro GT champion.  Making the announcement on social media, on the Capricorn Facebook page the 200mm  World Championship podium finisher said, ‘My first real “change” after 18 years.  A collaboration that makes me proud, all made in Italy. It’s going to be hard to do better than Capricorn has done in years past, one more reason to thank the company and its staff for this ambitious choice’.  On his own social media Mazzeo added, “Thank you Patri and all the Capricorn family for this generous opportunity celebrating Italy, our passion and our love for doing things, I hope you are just as winning in this sport as it has been for others. Can’t wait to get back out in the game alongside some of the best drivers in the world. See you on track very soon!

Bayers wins GT8E at Miami Electric Grand Prix

Martin Bayer is the 2022 Miami Grand Prix GT8E Champion.  With the electric classes kicking off the annual week long event at Homestead RC Raceway in Florida, the Xray designer secured the TQ with the fastest time in the second of the four rounds of qualifying at the 2020 GT World Championship venue.   Vice Champion in both nitro and electric at the inaugural World Championship, Bayer was the only driver to manage 19-laps in qualifying securing pole for the triple A-Mains ahead of Serpent’s Jose Almonte and Capricorn’s Natanaele Sensei.  In the finals, Bayer would win all three encounters with the big battle being for second between Almonte and Sensei who would finish tied on points with the former listed as P2.  In 1:10 Modified Touring Car, it was also a European winner with Hotrace Tyres boss Nicola Marrone securing the TQ from Felix Law before going onto win all three A-Mains to win ahead of fellow Italian Filippo Domanin with Law completing the podium.  Drivers will now turn their attentions to the Miami Nitro Grand Prix which has attracted a very strong international entry.
