Victory for Marc Rheinard at OneTen debut

Marc Rheinard has won on his debut at the OneTen series in Hong Kong, aided by an accident between his team mate Akio Sobue and pole sitter Nicholas Lee. Misjudging a passing opportunity Akio made heavy contact with the Yokomo driver, breaking his rear upright and forcing him to retire on the spot. This allowed Marc into the lead where he was able to drive it home and take the win, in doing so preventing Sobue from making it a clean sweep of the series this season. Rheinard commented that he ‘just stayed back’ and following the accident he ‘just took it’. He was again on old tires and with the win sealed up he has an extra set for tomorrow which will aid him in doing the double here at PYC.

Nicholas Lee breaks Sobue’s streak to TQ at PYC

Nicholas Lee has taken the TQ spot here at PYC having taken the 3rd and final round of qualifying by over 2 seconds. The result was a repeat of Q2 as the Yokomo driver again headed Sobue and Rheinard, giving the Singaporean his first pole position of the season and the first by anyone other than Akio. Jin Sawada, Meen Vejrak and Gary Huang all finished in the same place as they had in the Q2 and that would be how they start this afternoons 4-minute triple A-mains. ‘Finally Akio didn’t win every round’ was what a happy Nicholas Lee said when asked about his run. Running on new tires, he described the decision as last minute as Akio had also changed last minute and with the two of them in the hunt for the TQ, the Singaporean followed suit. Describing his BD9 as really good, he said ‘in the beginning it was close but by the end it was really good’.

Nicholas Lee tops Q2

Nicholas Lee has taken the 2nd round of qualifying at PYC, the Yokomo driver taking it by just .005 of a second in front of Q1 pace setter Akio Sobue. Behind Sobue, his Infinity team mates Marc Rheinard and Jin Sawada were next up, the former being the last driver to get a 27 lap in the round. Behind, Vejrak finally found some pace and would take 5th only less that a second behind Jin, with Gary Huang, Charlee P and Kenrick Fong completing the top 7 for the round. Speaking to Lee following the run he said he simply ‘drove better’, and also pointed out that his car doesn’t fade as much as the others in his heat, a fact shown by his ability to close on those ahead of him at the end of both heats so far. For the 3rd and final qualifier the Singaporean doesn’t plan any changes to his BD9 and with 2 good runs in the books, is now free to push for the TQ.

Akio Sobue takes opening qualifier at PYC

Akio Sobue has headed the opening round of qualifying at PYC for the penultimate round of the series in Hong Kong. The infinity driver made his way to the top of the times after his team mate Marc Rheinard had started strongly. The German faded near the end and was eventually passed by Yokomo’s Nicholas Lee who took 2nd for the round. Jin Sawada would make it 3 IF14s in the top 4, with Serpent driver Naoki Akiyama completing the top 5 some 8 seconds back from the pace setter. Newly crowned champion Sobue said ‘Rd1 was OK but too much steering, I almost spin’, explaining further that due to the rule of needing to clean your tires with brake cleaner before applying the handout Sweep additive had meant there was a lot more traction at the beginning. Once his car had run some minutes it improved and his car was ‘easier to drive’

BRCA LMP Nationals Rd6 – Report

The sixth and final round of the 2018/2019 BRCA 1/12th nationals took place last weekend in Chesterfield. The Chesterfield club is one of the stalwarts of the BRCA national series and this year treated us to new carpet to race on. The club’s members laid a fast flowing track and went the extra mile marking out the corners with kerbs and coloured run off areas making the track look fantastic. A capacity entry of 80 drivers appreciated the clubs efforts and there was a great atmosphere in the hall. On Saturday racers competed in the 13.5 blinky stock championship with the field split into F1, F2 and F3 grades. In F1, this year’s champion David Spashett again demonstrated the form that won the championship and took pole position from Andy Murray with Matthew Varah in third. David and Andy set off nose to tail and pulled a gap from Matt Lax who had moved up to third from fifth on the grid. Andy had a very fast car and was putting pressure on David who put his years of experience to good use and drove a tidy line to keep Andy behind before unfortunately collecting a crashed car allowing Andy through. This time it was David’s turn to give chase and the pair traded almost identical lap times for the next few minutes. Unfortunately contact while lapping a backmarker swapped the lead again and this time David would bring his car home for the win with Andy in a close second. Matt Lax drove a clean controlled drive to complete the top three.

Leo Arnold wins French 1/10th 200mm opener

Last weekend, the first round of the French 1/10th 200mm Nitro Championship took place in Angouleme, in the western part of France. Over 70 drivers made the trip to compete on the low to medium-bite track that offered a fast layout and a technical chicane just before the main straight. In the qualifiers it was a close battle between Leo Arnold and Quentin Leroux for the TQ spot. In the end Leo took the TQ spot by only 0.1s on Quentin Leroux. For the 45-minute final it was the same story and a close battle was seen during the first 15 minutes between these two drivers but ultimately Leo Arnold (Xray) took the win with a 2 laps margin in front of the Capricorn duo of Kevin Rasquin in 2nd and Thomas Guillon in 3rd.
