Leonardo Varga crowned Austrian 200mm Champion

Last weekend the third round of the Austrian IC Championship took place at the MAC Amstetten club in hot summer temperatures of around 35°C. In the 1/10 Nitro class everything went according to plan for Gerhard Kandelhart, taking TQ honours followed by Leonardo Varga, Christoph Rohrmoser and Franz Engel in 4th place (all Shepherd). The final saw a clean start with everyone trying to avoid contact and the first four drivers were able to break away from the field quite quickly. At the first stop for fuel, Leonardo pitted a lap later and could take over the lead with Gerhard loosing time coming in and out of the pits with some traffic finally ended in a crash and an engine flame-out. Gerhard fought his way back to 2nd place through, but eventually risked too much and went out of fuel two laps before the end. Thus Leonardo Varga took the lead and the race wing and secured himself a maiden Austrian Championship title. The other podium spots were taken by Franz Engel and Gerhard Kandelhart.

Protoform V2 adjustable formula front wing

Protoform’s new V2 formula front wing is a 3-way adjustable solution for all popular 1/10th scale formula pan cars. The adjustability ensures the wing to suit any condition a track throws at the driver: a low-downforce option, a medium downforce with 1-element add-on winglet, or a high-downforce, 2-element add-on winglet for maximum steering feel. The tall wing endplates enhance straight-line stability and side-bite in long sweepers. Inspired by popular American open-wheel cars from the late 1990s, Protoform also incorporated additional ground clearance at the outer extremities, especially important on U.S.-style high-grip carpet. A wide, flat section in the middle of the wing provides a perfect mating surface for any formula body. The wings are made from sleek, matte-finished, ultra-durable nylon and will fit most popular formula cars on the market such as Xray, Team Associated, Tamiya and Roche. They are available in Black colour now, with a white option coming soon.

Cristobal Herrera wins at Chilean IC Track Nats Rd8

Round 8 of the Chilean National IC Track Championship was hosted by the Aeromodelos de Chile club in Santiago de Chile. In the 1/8th class Francisco Lara (Serpent/Picco) from Spain, after been out of the racing scene for eleven months, took the overall TQ, scoring a new track record of 22.151s in the process. From the tone Francisco took the lead while a huge battle for the 2nd place was going on between Alvaro Jara (Shepherd/Sonic), Matias Otaegui (Xray/Sonic) and Cristobal Herrera. Later however Francisco ran into trouble as his car was loosing performance, allowing Alvaro, Cristobal and Matias to get by. Soon after Cristobal began to attack Jara on every short straight and in every curve, trying to show his car in Jara’s “mirror”. When the final five minutes began, Jara’s car suffered a flame out but thanks to some quick pit work he was able to bring home a 3rd place behind runner-up, Matias Otaegui and eventual winner, Cristobal Herrera.

Nejc Mihelic wins Austrian 1/8th Nitro Champs Rd3

The Amstetten track in Northern Austria played host to a sizzling hot round 3 of the Austrian IC Track Championship. Before the start of the 45-minute A-main it was Lubi Paunovic who called for a time out and the short period was also taken benefit of by Nejc Mihelic who faced engine troubles in the warm-up period to the A-main. At this time Gerhard Kandelhart was leading the race closely followed by Herfried Pucher who recovered after a difficult weekend and found back to speed in the final. After 15 minutes, Pucher took over the lead until the 30-minute mark where the leading cars of Pucher and Mihelic decided to change the outside tyres only. In this phase Mihelic recovered from the difficulties in the beginning and closed the gap to Pucher. In the end Mihelic was able to bring home the win some three seconds in front of Pucher and Paunovic, another two laps down.

After the qualification Lars Hoppe took the TQ spot in the 1/8th class while Rico Kröber dominated the 1/10th 200mm qualification at will. The final of the 1/8th class was a thrilling one. At the start Timo Schröder could pass Lars but after a small mistake Lars took over the lead again, but Timo did not give up and kept up the pressure. After two quick refuelling stops Lars was able to pull away a good four seconds but after an accident with a back marker, Lars had to slow down which unfortunately caused his engine to stop. Timo, who made a tyre change, was right back on the heels of Lars and each of the spectators was waiting for the showdown of the two. Unfortunately, another engine stall from Lars saw Timo Schröder winning the race some two laps ahead of Lars in 2nd and Benny Ciere in 3rd position. Belgian Electric On-road Nationals Rd4 – Report

The MAC de Baanbrekers club played host to the fourth round of the Belgian Electric On-road Nationals over the weekend. With the Benelux+ race held a week ago on the same track, every driver was focused and keen to get a good result. The biggest uncertainty would however prove to be the weather. On Sunday morning, everyone was checking the weather apps as heavy showers were expected to appear around 15 p.m. Qualifying got underway on a dry track, but the strong winds made the track very tricky to drive. In the premier Touring Modified class, everyone expected Olivier Bultynck (Awesomatix) to dominate the event. His usually strongest opponent, young Dutch driver Mitchell Van Es (Awesomatix), couldn’t quite get the perfect setup for the changing track conditions and had to settle for P2 in the first qualifier, some eight seconds behind Olivier. Florian Joos (Xray) took a provisional 3rd place. Young Athan De Witte (Yokomo) had been very strong in the practice sessions, but had to retire his car with a diff issue.
