Gruber confirms he’ll defend 1:8 GT World title in Chile

Toni Gruber has confirmed that he will make the trip to Chile in September to defend his IFMAR 1:8 GT World Championship title.  The German won the title for his GT chassis sponsor Hong Nor and engine sponsor Ielasi Tuned in 2023 in Sydney, Australia, on what was only the second running of the World Championship for the category.  With the 3rd edition originally awarded to Peru, issues for that track meant it was moved to Chile and to  the very impressive Club de Aeromodelos de Chile (CACH) facility which houses a variety of RC tracks and airfields and which will also host the 1:8 Onroad Worlds 2-months after the GT event.  With the dramas of both 2024 IFMAR World Championships awarded to South American being relocated to Spain and Thailand, there has been talk of top international drivers not intending on travelling to Chile so we reached out to a number of the potential title contenders to clarify their position on supporting the event.  Gruber, whose title winning reaction photo almost broke the internet, had no hesitation in confirming he will be in Chile for the September 14-20th schedule event.

EWS Round 5 & Overall Championship – Report

The well-known Essex Winter Series concluded it’s 2024/25 season over the weekend at its venue in the South-East of the UK.  In the LRP Modified class, Olly Jefferies and Elliott Harper were tied on points going into the race, with Kyle Branson just two points behind, setting up a great showdown to round out the series.  In qualifying, Olly was on form, taking his factory Awesomatix to the fastest time in every round, putting a firm grip on the overall title.  Kyle Branson lined up second on the grid with his Tonisport-backed Awesomatix, with Alex Thurston taking the new Mugen MTC-3 to third.  Elliott Harper essentially saw his chances of another EWS title disappearing with a fourth place grid spot for Schumacher, and Stefan Chodzynski rounded out the top five with another Tonisport-supported Awesomatix.  In the final, Olly stamped his authority on the season with a commanding win.  Kyle took second place, about 1.5-seconds back on Olly, whilst Elliott and Alex battled hard for third. Elliott took third, whilst side-by-side racing over the last few laps allowed Bailey Graves to come through to fourth and Jack Collins take fifth. In the overall points, Olly Jefferies took the title, with Elliott finishing in the runner-up position.  Kyle was third overall with Alex fourth in the standings.  Harley Eldridge, missing this race to be at the ETS in Vienna, was fifth overall.

Orlowski caps off ETS title with 10th consecutive win

Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski completed an impressive unbeaten run in the ETS over the weekend as he notched up win number 10 in as many races.  Having already successfully defended his Modified title at the previous round in Germany, at the season finale in Austria the Pole would wrap up the season with the TQ and victory.  Making the switch back to carpet for the event following his impressive TITC debut win last month,  Orlowski topped all four qualifiers to secure the TQ ahead of Mugen Seiki’s Ronald Volker and Awesomatix Marc Rheinard.  While he got the better of Orlowski with his new MTC-3 at the recent MIBO International, in the final Volker could do nothing about the pole sitter and backing up his A1 win another, albeit closer win, in A2 the fifth round was decided.  Winning A3 from Rheinard, Volker would finish P2 for the round but in the overall in the championship he finished third behind Rheinard.  In Pro Stock Sören Sparbier gave Mugen their second win with the new MTC-3 to finish runner-up in the championship behind Awesomatix’s Lukas Ellerbrock who ccomplete the podium in Vienna behind Xray’s Adam Izsay.  In FWD, 4th place was enough for Schumacher’s Márk Valent to secure the title ahead of Yokomo’s Frederik Hovgaard while victory at the fifth round saw Phil Langner complete the Championship Top 3.
