Traugott Schär wins 200mm class at Swiss Nats Rd2

Round two of the Swiss Nitro On-road Nationals was held at the iconic Lostallo track. After four rounds of qualifying, Xray’s Traugott Schär grabbed the overall TQ but with rain pouring down in the main final, many drivers were uncertain what to expect during the race. Traugott Schär opted to run his spare rain car although he didn’t know anything about its behaviour in the given track conditions. At the end it worked out very well for the pole position holder as he won the A-main in front of his teammates Rapahel Wicki and Patrick Fankhauser in second and third respectively.

Rick Vrielijnck wins opening Dutch 1/8th national

The opening round of the Dutch 1/8th Nitro On-road National Championship was held last weekend at the Real 80 track in Groningen in the North of the Netherlands. 51 drivers where welcomed with sunny weather conditions which lasted the whole weekend. This year the Dutch championship is run under a different racing format. Both (Premier) NK and (secondary) Nomac class, drive together in a combined “ABC” system. After the combined race, seperate championship points are given to the drivers in their respective class. After qualification all drivers are divided in this ABC system, and per lower final 2 bump up spots are available for the 2 fastest drivers to bump up to the next final. Because of this system, there where very nice battles in almost al lower finals to be seen between drivers fighting for these 2 bump-up spots. After all finals where run, Rick Vrielijnck won the A-Final, and came out as winner of the premier NK class. 2nd spot went to Joey Sorber, and 3rd to Jeffrey Rietveld.

Robert Pietsch wins Hot Race Nitro Cup

Robert Pietsch wins Hot Race Nitro Cup

The Hot Race Nitro Cup took place last weekend in Gubbio, Italy, the host of this summer’s 200mm World Championships. Using the same handout Hot Race tires as those to be used at the Worlds a lot of drivers used the event to gain knowledge on the track and tires.Qualifying would see former 1/8th World Champion Robert Pietsch take the top spot in qualifying with his Picco powered Mugen, ahead of the Tesla powered Capricorn of Dario Balestri, with super fast French race Leo Arnold with his Orion powered Xray in 3rd. Unfortunately the rain arrived before the finals could be won and so the even was called on the qualifying results. In the two support classes it was Roberto De Cesare that won the 1/8th class, which was run in the wet, while in the 1/10th National class the win went to TQ man Federico Iezzi.

Masao Tanaka wins at Sagamido Challenge

Masao Tanaka wins at Sagamido Challenge

The Sagamido Challenge was recently held at the SRT track in Aikou, Japan in the four nitro on-road classes of 1/8th Expert, 1/8th Sport, 1/10th GPT and 1/8th GT. A total of 55 drivers attended and in the 1/8th Expert category it was Worlds runner-up, Takahaki Shimo who set the TQ after the two rounds of 4 minute qualifying, followed by young and talented Shoki Takahata and Keisuke Fukuda in second and third respectively. Masao Tanaka would follow in fourth. The 20 minute A-main was sort of a sprint race with the top drivers pulling away swiftly while Masao Tanaka suffered a first corner crash, but he would recover soon, eventually passing Fukuda during the early stages of the race. Mid-race the traction conditions changed instantly with the previously low grip track changed to high grip as the dust got whipped away, causing a lot of trouble for many drivers. Traction rolling was soon a problem for most with Masao taking profit of the situation as he was able to grab the win one lap head of Takahaki Shimo.
