Volker tops first controlled practice

Ronald Volker topped the first round of controlled practice at the Touring Car World Championships in Florida, the Yokomo driver fastest over 3-consecutive laps from the Tamiya’s of Marc Rheinard and Viktor Wilck. Having set the pace in yesterday’s open practice Volker’s team Naoto Matsukura had a very short lived start to Day 2 as he managed only two timed laps before hitting the boards at the end of the straight and popping a tie rod.

SA Gas On-road Champs final round – Report

The final round of the South African gas on-road championships was held at the RC Zone track in Middelburg. In the 1/8th scale class Wayne Joelson was the man to beat after taking TQ with Antonio Caroli having bad luck being disqualified in two of the qualifying rounds due to his car being under the minimum weight limit having lost weights during two of the qualifying rounds. Antonio made up for that in the final round by qualifying in second place and setting the fastest lap of the last round.

Yokomo stamps authority on Day 1 of World Championships

Team Yokomo has stamped its authority on Day 1 of the Touring Car World Championships in Florida with their drivers filling the Top 3 spots on the time sheets at the end of the four rounds of practice. While the timing is based on 3-consecutive laps rather than overall 5-minute pace, most drivers running two cars during each practice, the Japanese manufacturer has still laid it down to their rivals at the Kissimmee track. Improving his P3 topping pace by almost 4/10ths of a second, Naoto Matsukura headed the times from Ronald Volker with Atsushi Hara improving by almost a second in P4 to move up to third. After crashing & breaking in P3, Viktor Wilck is the closest to the pace of the Yokomo trio taking his Tamiya to the fourth fastest time ahead of team-mate Marc Rheinard.

Yokomo set early pace in Kissimmee

Team Yokomo are setting the early pace at the Touring Car World Championship in Kissimmee, Florida, with Naoto Matsukura fastest over three consecutive laps from team-mate and pre-event favourite Ronald Volker. With four Yokomos in the Top 5, Atsushi Hara posting the fourth fastest time and Yannic Prumper 5th after 3 rounds of practice, it is Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard who is the closest challenger taking his new TRF419 to the 3rd fastest time. Defending Champion Jilles Groskamp managed the 9th fastest time.

Rheinard new 1:12 World Champion

Marc Rheinard is the new 1:12 World Champion after a stunning recovery drive in the second A-Main of the Florida event saw him take the win and enter the history books as the first driver to hold both a 1:12 and Touring Car World title. Ending the 6-year reign of Naoto Matsukura, the 3-time Touring Car World Champion becomes only the 7th different winner of IFMAR’s longest running electric World Championship and with it brings 1:12 stalwart chassis manufacturer CRC their first World title.

Felix & Vilarinho grab Portuguese Nitro On-road titles

The final round of the Portuguese Nitro On-road Championships was held last weekend. In the 1/8th class Jose Felix took the win in front of Nuno Duraes and Pedro Silva. The win also secured Jose the the overall title in this year’s championship. In the 1/10th 200mm class Franco Vilarinho brought home the day’s win and the overall title with Hugo Mendes and Carlos Manual rounding out the podium of the final round.

Rheinard takes A1 at 1:12 Worlds

Marc Rheinard has won the opening A-Main at the 1:12 World Championships in Florida. Starting from second on the grid, the CRC driver went to the front following an early mistake by Top Qualifier Naoto Matsukura and stayed there to take the 8-minute encounter from Alexander Hagberg and Hideo Kitazawa. Three laps after Rheinard took over the lead, defending champion Matsukura and Hagberg would get together the Japanese driving coming off worst and only able to recover to finish 5th.

Sanwa signs up Hagberg

Sanwa have announced at the 1:12 World Championships in Florida the signing of lead Xray team driver Alexander Hagberg.  A direct factory deal with the famous Japanese radio manufacturer, it will see the Swede use both the company’s radios and servos, his choice of transmitter being the M12.  While Sanwa also produce speedos, the European 1:12 Champion will continue to run ORCA electrics in all his cars. Announcing the deal with Sanwa’s Akimasa Uchida, Hagberg said ‘with my KO contract up I took the opportunity to try all the different radios which included buying a Sanwa which I really liked and its great that we are now able to work together on an official deal’.  Statistics provided by Sanwa show that at the 1:12 Worlds their radio is the most popular choice with a 59% share of the field of which over half are the M12.  The second most popular radio with just shy of a quarter of racer using it is KO Propo with Futaba third with 16% usage.
