Pietsch TQs opening Qualifier in Miami

2008 World Championship Top Qualifier Robert Pietsch has topped the opening round of qualifying at the 18th IFMAR 1:8 Onroad World Championship.  The reigning European Champion was fastest from 2008 finalist Dario Balestri and class newcomer Atsushi Hara, the three being the only drivers to record 37 laps.

Blazej Orlowsk takes Polish indoor title

Last weekend saw the Polish Indoor On-Road Championships final race, which took place on carpet in Warsaw. In the fastest 1/10 touring Open Stock class, the whole podium went to Tamiya TRF 417 drivers, with top qualifier Blazej Orlowski taking the race win and with it the championship title. Second place went to Michal Orlowski with Maciek Brzozowski in 3rd. In the junior class 7-year old Maciek Kajko, who was second in the race, took the champion title. Second place went to Kuba Sienica with his brother Mikolaj Sienica in 3rd. And finally in the E-12 class the title went to Lukasz Kowalczyk in front of Grzegorz Kopertowski in 2nd and Patryk Raczynski in 3rd.

Hara tops ‘extra’ practice in Miami

1:8 Onroad debutant Atsushi Hara has topped the extra practice session that replaced the opening two rounds of qualifying following this morning’s tyre additive scandal.  The Japanese ace, whose confidence is growing with every outing, was fastest from Italian’s Dario Balestri and Michele Romangnoli.

Day 1 of qualifying in Miami cancelled

The opening day of qualifying has been cancelled at the 1:8 Onroad World Championship with drivers now set to get an extra practice run this evening as a new procedure is adapted for the morning when the first of the reduced 4 rounds of qualifying will finally get underway.  With the paddock having been turned into a series of meeting areas this morning following protests over the handling of the tyre additive issue that is overshadowing the 18th running of the World Championship, IFMAR has made the decision that a controlled tyre prep area will be introduced for the remainder of the event.

Thomas Günsel joins Capricorn

Thomas Günsel joins Capricorn

German Capricorn distributor Race-Center-Munzig have announced the signing of former German Champion and European ‘B’ podium finisher Thomas Günsel to their team. The German driver signed a 2 year deal, which will see him running the latest version of the Capricorn LAB-C01 and the whole product range including Capricorn LAB-E01 engines, Capricorn fuel and HardLight tires. He will attend both European Championships, as well as the German EFRA GP and German Championship. Thomas has the following to say:

After 5 successful years running Xray, I´m looking for a new competition with Capricorn. I would like to thank Xray/Hudy and SMI/Bertram Kessler for their support in the past. Having tested the Capricorn LAB-C01 in the last weeks, I was really satisfied with the performance and handling. I’m looking forward for a good partnership with Capricorn / Race-Center-Munzig.

Pietsch tops final practice in Miami

Just as he did at the last 1:8 Onroad World Championship before going on to become the Top Qualifier, Mugen’s Robert Pietsch has set the pace in the final practice in Miami, Florida.  After the 37 lap run, the reigning European Champion said the run was not perfect.  Running his engine slightly safe it was too rich and switching to softer shock oil he said he got the order wrong with the softer oil better suited to cooler morning conditions.

Collari goes for 10th World title in Miami

Kyosho’s Lamberto Collari is going after his 10th World title this week at the IFMAR 1:8 Onroad World Championships which are underway at the Homestead Raceway in Miami, Florida.  The Italian legend, who won his first title 22 years ago, is chasing a fifth consecutive title in r/c racing’s ‘Formula 1′ category and for his rivals its more a case of aiming to beat Collari rather than aiming to win a World title.

Keven Hébert wins ROAR 1/12th 13.5 Nationals

Keven Hébert wins ROAR 1/12th 13.5 Nationals

Reedy factory driver Keven Hébert took his Reedy/LRP powered Team Associated 12R5.1 to the win in the 1/12 Open 13.5 class at the 2011 ROAR Carpet Nationals recently. Even though Keven was forced to switch chassis in the middle of qualifying, he still managed to claim the top qualifying position and the coveted inside front row start. From the pole, Keven built up a manageable gap over second place to victories in the first two legs of the A Main and to win the prestigious ROAR National Championship title.
