Robert Batlle wins Spanish nitro off-road nationals Rd2

The 2nd round of the Spanish nitro off-road nationals took place last weekend at the Santa Oliva track. Despite coming late to the starting grid of the final due to a supposed receiver battery connector issue, Mugen’s Robert Batlle took his Novarossi-powered buggy to a convincing win. Bryan Baldo (Mugen/Novarossi) with a flame out and Andres Marcelino (RB/RB) lined up behind. Carlos Pineda (Mugen/Ultimate) and Jaume Figuls (Mugen/Alpha) completed the top 5 result.

BRCA 1/8th Circuit National Champs Rd3 – Report

The 3rd round of the BRCA 1/8th Circuit Championship was held at the Wombwell circuit in South Yorkshire. This track was one of the first in this country to race 1/8th scale cars with many drivers saying it is one of the best drivers tracks around and once the grip is high and you have a confident setup, then it is a dream to drive and very rewarding after you have produced a good run. The track contains a narrow infield with a long straight and flowing sweepers which allows the car to change gear at least 3 times per lap. With the cancelation of last year’s event due to bad weather, it was the first time for many at this track and what also greeted the regulars were a new rostrum and race control cabin which has made a massive difference to the club setup and increased the visibility. With the weather forecast being sunny all weekend, it would be the first race of the year that rain would not play any part during the day.

Hartson & Motter take wins at JBRL Rd4

The 4th round of the 2014 JBRL Electric series, hosted by OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, CA would see 265 entries with some of the areas fast guys plus several drivers coming in from out of state. Steven Hartson took the win in the 2WD Modified Buggy with Kevin Motter in 2nd and Jake Thayer in 3rd. Steven also swept the Modified Truck class while Kevin Motter came out successful in 2WD Modified Short Course. Jake Thayer then went on to win the Super Stock Buggy class. Round 5 of the series will be hosted by Controlled Chaos Raceway located in Palmdale, CA on June 14th.

Pro-Line EB48.2 Phantom bodyshell – Sneak peek

Pro-Line soon have a Phantom design bodyshell for the Tekno RC EB48.2 1/8th E-buggy available. Making use of the distinctive Phantom design, that was first introduced for 1/10th scale buggies, the body features a Stealth Fighter-ish cabin, edged sidepods and a rear section with an optional rear fin for improved airflow towards the rear wing. All information about the body and a release date will be available soon.

WRC STI extra hard A-arms

New from WRC Racing come extra hard front and rear A-arms for the STX touring car. The harder composite material makes for less flex of the arms in hot ambient temperatures thus giving increased steering precision and rear end grip. The parts also incorporate a new lower shock mounting hole for added tuneability.

Petition to save Mike's Hobby Shop

Through our live event coverage we get to travel to many r/c facilities around the world meeting many great people along the way. One facility and person to make a lasting impression on us is Mike’s Hobby Shop in Texas which is owned by all round good guy Mike Darnell. Having been twice to Mike’s haven for r/c enthusiasts, once for a round of Scotty Ernst’s Short Course Showdown Nationwide Tour and again for a round of JConcept’s Indoor National Series, we were more than impressed by what the place but also the great work Mike does in particular with encouraging younger generations in our sport. Unfortunately expansion work to Highway I-35 mean that Mike’s Hobby Shop, which would easily feature in a Top 10 of the worlds greatest rc facilities, could be halved in size under current State of Texas proposals meaning it will no longer be a viable operation. Supporters of the facility and Mike, who is one of those guys that goes beyond the call of duty for our hobby, have created a petition that we would encourage you to sign in the hope that this great facility can be saved and continue to viably operate. Cut from 2.5mm carbon fibre and coming with machined edges for a distinctive look, the part is designed to replace the standard brace on re-release and original RC10 buggies. The brace works with the kit’s mounting hardware and optional thumbscrews alike.

VRC Pro goes Pattaya

Virtual RC have just released the Pattaya off-road track for the VRC Pro RC car simulator software. The track, home of the 2010 IFMAR Worlds and the Asia Contest race, is considered to be the biggest, baddest and meanest off-road track on the planet. The track uses the 2012 layout and offers 450 meters of digital Thai dirt, daring doubles, triples and quads. The track is optimised to be used in both directions so you get 2 tracks in 1. With the release of the Pattaya track VRC Pro now features 9 full-size off-road tracks suitable for nitro buggies and short course trucks.
