Team Orion Voltage regulator

Team Orion Voltage regulator

After having changed the electric racing market by establishing the LiPo as a standard worldwide, Team Orion is turning their attentions to using LiPo for RX packs. Since Lipo packs give a nominal voltage of 7.4 volts, and 8,4 volts when fully charged, it can’t be used with many receiver or servos without a voltage regulator. While there are some regulators already on the market, these are very low tech and not very resistant to the abuse that can occur when mounted in an RC car. Team Orion have produced a concept which has been made specifically to withstand this abuse, with their new Voltage regulator coming mounted in a protective casing.

The Team Orion Voltage regulator maintains a 10 Amps constant current which is a first for such a device, perfect for use with 1/5th and 1/8th scale cars that are using today’s most powerful Digital Servos that can draw currents of up to 10 amps when steering and braking is being used at the same time. In order to maintain a constant working temperature and to make sure the operational voltage is constant from the beginning to the end of the race, the regulator is supplied with a heat sink.

Another unique feature of this regulator is the fact that for the first time, the voltage is adjustable, from 5.2 to 7.0 volt, enabling the user to obtain the best voltage for each specific servo and receiver. More voltage means quicker reaction speeds and better efficiency, but a lot of servos start glitching if the voltage is too high. The ability to adjust accordingly means the exact voltage can be found by adjusting it in 0.2 volt increments, through the built-in button.

A key feature is that it can also be used with NiMH packs as well Lipo packs, with it accepting 6-8 NiMh cells instead of the usual 5, while giving your cars electronics the exact same pre-set voltage throughout the entire race. This ensures that the feeling will stay the same from the first minute of the race, all the way through to the end, which makes a big change from using a pack without it, when the racer has faster reaction speed at the beginning and slower speeds near the end of the race.

Suitable for all forms of radio controlled vehicles, it will be available Worldwide from the 1st of July. Pre-order is strongly recommended.
