PRCR 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Race

Portland R/C Raceway’s 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Race was held this past weekend in Clackamas, Oregon. Last year PRCR helped collect a lot of toys for underprivelaged children and was looking to hopefully bring in even more this year. Racers came from as far as central Washington to attend this great event, with entries reaching 96, making it bigger than last years event. The PRCR staff provided snacks all day long that was enjoyed by all the racers. The race format consisted of two 5-minute qualifiers using the rocket round format. After qualifying, lower main bump-ups were run, taking the top 2 drivers from the B’s into the A’s. The top 6 drivers from qualifying made it straight into the Triple A-Main Events. This making it an 8 car field to battle it out for the overall win.

PRCR is the home track for Kyosho America Team Manager Joe Pillars. Jim Dunlap (Joe’s father-inlaw) and Joe started PRCR only 1 short year ago bringing back R/C racing in the Portland area. Kyosho went on to win 6 classes at this years Toys for Tots event out of a total 8 possible. New talent in the Portland area Nick Young went on to win the Stock Buggy and Stock Truck classes with his Kyosho rides. Kyosho’s Shaun Dunlap has been on a hot streak in the North-West and went on to TQ and Win the 2wd Modified Buggy and Modified Truck classes. Thomas Tran is another rising talent in Portland that went on to TQ and Win the 4wd Modfied Buggy Class, along with finishing 4th overall in 2wd Modified Buggy. Todd Powell TQ’ed the Modified Short Course class with his Kyosho SC-R and took the win early by winning the first 2 A-Mains.
