ROAR Region 11 electric off-road championships

The 2011 ROAR Region 11 Electric Off-Road Championships were held at Dave’s R/C Raceway in Hubbard, OR this past weekend. Drivers from across the North-West made the trip out for this event and the final entry count reached 135. The race schedule saw the open practice on Friday with three Rounds of five minute qualifiers for each class on Saturday, a final five minute qualifying run on Sunday followed by six minute lower main bump ups, and six minute Triple A-Mains. Each driver’s two best rounds out of four would count toward their overall qualifying order. Then the top eight drivers would go straight into the A-Main, with two cars would bump from the lower main into the A-Main for a ten car field.


PRCR local Tanner Day would just edge out Chris Nealeigh (another PRCR local) for the overall TQ, both drivers running a Kyosho RB5-SP2. Chris Nealeigh would go onto win A-Main #1 and A-Main #3 to take home his first ever Region 11 Championship. Salem local Jared McCormick would went on to win A-Main #2 and finish 2nd in A-Main #3 to take 2nd overall. Kevin Focht went on to take 3rd overall by finishing 3rd in A-Mains #1 and #3.

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Thomas Tran would go onto TQ three rounds of qualifying and take the overall TQ with his Kyosho RT5. Thomas then went two and out by winning the first two A-Mains in style to take home the Modified Truck Region 11 Championship. Gary Culp made his regional return to racing by taking an impressive 2nd overall by finishing 2nd in A-Main #2 and winning A-Main #3. Dave Gullickson would take 3rd overall by finishing 2nd in A-Main #1 and 3rd in A-Main #2.

1. Thomas Tran (TQ) – Kyosho RT5

3. Dave Gullickson – Losi

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Shaun Dunlap dominated qualifying and would take the overall TQ with his FS2. Shaun would then win the first two A-Mains to take home his 2nd Region 11 Championship of the weekend. Tom Davies would take 2nd overall by finishing 2nd in A-Main #1 and winning A-Main #3. Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Andy DiBrino would round out the podium in 3rd by finishing 2nd in A-Mains #2 and #3.

1. Shaun Dunlap (TQ) – Kyosho Lazer ZX5-FS2
2. Tom Davies – Associated
3. Andy DiBrino Kyosho – Lazer ZX5-FS2

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Andy DiBrino would TQ two rounds of qualifying and take the overall TQ. DiBrino would go onto win A-Main #1 with Dunlap finishing in 2nd. Then Dunlap would win A-Main #2 with DiBrino finishing 2nd. So the 3rd and final main would decide the Champion. Andy DiBrino would lead every lap and hold on for the win and his first Region 11 Championship. Dunlap would finish 2nd overall. Derek Rasheed would land on the podium once again for 3rd overall after finishing 3rd in every triple A-Main.
