Kyosho Classic Series Rd1 report

This past weekend was Round 1 of the 1/10 Electric Kyosho Classic Series held at The Vegas R/C Raceway in Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada. Kyosho America Team Manager Joe Pillars, along with Kyosho team drivers Shaun Dunlap, Andy DiBrino and Zack Rogers all made the trip out to Sin City to support the first round of this series. Team Drivers from TLR and Associated also made their way out for Round 1. The entries reached an impressive 115 for this first race making it the largest series entry count at The VRCR.

2wd Modified Buggy
The premier class of the weekend was the 2wd Modified Buggy Class, with all the heavy hitters competing in it. Kyosho’s Shaun Dunlap would take the overall TQ for this class.

Shaun then went onto win A-Main 1 & 2 to take home the 2wd Modified Buggy Championship. Kyosho teammate and rising star Andy DiBrino put in a great performance finishing up with a 2nd in A-Main 1 and winning A-Main 3 to take 2nd overall. Kyosho America Team Manager Joe Pillars finished 3rd overall with a 2nd in A-Main 2 and a 3rd in A-Main 3, this completing the Kyosho Podium Sweep. All 3 Kyosho Drivers also took advantage of their Team Orion Power and AKA Tires to get them on top.

2wd Modified Buggy Podium
1. Shaun Dunlap (TQ) – Kyosho RB5-WC
2. Andy DiBrino – Kyosho RB5-WC
3. Joe Pillars – Kyosho RB5-WC

2wd Modified Short Course
In the 2wd Modified Short Course Class, Kyosho’s Andy DiBrino went on to TQ both rounds of qualifying to take the overall TQ. Andy then went on to Win A-Main 1 and A-Main 2 to take home the Championship. Local hero Shane Lyon finished 2nd in A-Main 2 and Won A-Main 3 to finish 2nd overall. Joe Pillars finished only 3 seconds behind DiBrino in A-Main 1 to finish 2nd and then finished 3rd in A-Main 2. A DNF in A-Main 3 would give Pillars 3rd overall.

3. Joe Pillars – Kyosho SC-R SP

4wd Modified Buggy
In the 4wd Modified Buggy Class it was Kyosho’s other young talent Zack Rogers who would take the overall TQ. In this class, a single 7-Minute A-Main would be ran to decide the winner. Zack went on to lead the race from wire to wire with his Kyosho teammate Shaun Dunlap closing the gap on the last couple laps. Rogers would hold on for the win with Dunlap in 2nd. Local driver Chris Miller would finish 3rd.

4wd Modified Buggy Podium
1. Zack Rogers (TQ) – Kyosho Lazer SP
2. Shaun Dunlap – Kyosho Lazer SP
3. Chris Miller – Durango
