Romain Picard wins French 1/8th national opener

The opening round of the French 1/8th on road national championships was held in Neuville le Poitou last weekend. There weer 30 drivers in the Elite Class and 47 in the National Class and dry but cold and windy conditions greeted all the drivers. In qualifying for the Elite class it was former World Champion Adrien Bertin that took the pole position ahead of Stéphane Bouche in 2nd, while in the National class it was Nicolas Rosado with the fastest time. Adrien Bertin once again failed to make it into the final after problems in the semi final. At the start of the Elite final there was a close battle between Romain Picard and reigning French champion Arnaud Mathieu, but Arnaud retires after only a few minutes after an engine flame out. Stephane Bouche would take second position just behind the leader but he too hit problems. In the end it was Mugen racer Romain Picard that took the win.

In the National Class Nicolas Rosado took the early lead, but at the halfway mark he was force to retire due to clutch problems. After a cautious start, Shepherd driver Faisal Affejee took the lead to the end. A smart race which allows him to claim his first victory in the class.
