Michele Romagnoli wins 2012 Novarossi Trophy

Shepherd sent this short report from Samuele Romagnoli about the international Novarossi Trophy which took place in Fiorano. “We arrived at the track on Friday and although there was rain predicted it was a sunny day. We fired up our Sonic engine and immediately our Velox V8 was fast as the setup was nearly perfect. The only thing to decide was the body to use: the Protoform P909 had a little bite more steering, but the new R18 was a little bit easier to drive. Therefore we did a lot of tests with the bodies and tyres. The Sonic motor was immediately running perfectly at very low temperatures combining a good fuel consumption and a high top speed.

On Saturday morning the track had a lot of grip so we decided to use the R18 body. Qualifying went fantastic and at the end of the day Michele was on top of the time sheets in front of great drivers like Lamberto Collari, Andrea Pirani, Paolo Morganti, the Salemi brothers and others. The final qualifier was held on Sunday morning and Michele and me decided to use it to test some tyres for the final and to set up the motor. At the end of qualifying Michele was in 3rd position, but we were well prepared for the final.

In the afternoon the 45-min main final was started and from first lap on it was an affair between Michele, Lamberto Collari and Christian Cavicchioli. As Lamberto had to retire early, Caviccioli was chased by Michele with a gap of 5 secs after 20 minutes. But at this point we were still confident to race for the win as we could save some fuel stops. After 30 min Michele was in the lead as we also didn’t change the tyres. The last 3 minutes were very hard to drive for Michele, but he crossed the finishing line in first position followed by Christian and Alberto Tedeschi in 3rd position.”
