Xray Challenge Roma – Report

Xray Challenge Roma – Report

The Xray Challenge Roma was held at the T5 track in Rome, Italy. Practice on the small and technical track started on Friday with many drivers trying to get a feel and setup for the flat high grip surface. Unfortunately for the organisers and the racers, most of the Saturday was washed away by the ever present rain in Europe these Spring. However the drivers were able to get at least two hours of practice on the Saturday afternoon. This was followed by one of the highlights of the event, the Xray dinner party, held at the track that same night. It was a memorable evening with great food, atmosphere, and even a couple of surprises. The lucky draw was a much appreciated moment as well – with delighted winners.

The race itself was run in perfect sunny and hot conditions on Sunday. Starting early in the morning with one round of heat practice three rounds of qualifying were run with Xray’s Alex Hagberg taking TQ in the Touring Modified class from Alessio Menicucci and Martin Hudy. In the Stock class, it was Massimo Fabiani who put in a dominating performance taking TQ. In the 1/18th class, Mauro Fabiani was unbeatable with his Xray M18. The finals were rather uneventful for the TQ drivers. Alex was able to win all three finals, however, he was challenged by a fast Menicucci in the first main. In the Stock class and 1/18th class, it was the Fabianis who made the most of their TQ positions to take the win in each respective class.
