HNMC 2013 GP – Report

HNMC 2013 GP – Report

Last weekend the HNMC 2013 GP took place at the Herts Nitro Model Club track. Planed building on last year’s Proline event but with The Neo race on the same weekend it was going to be more club driver friendly. The track, that is considered to be one of UK’s best, was nicely prepped by the club members and a lot of effort went into the meeting by the club’s members and committee and the staff at Westmill farm. The first day of the GP was literally washed away due to rain, rain and more rain. Sunday started with the attempt to remove 2000 litres of water from the track and finally practice could start at 10:40.

Two rounds of practice and four rounds of heats with two more rounds on Monday with a standard final format for Monday was the new schedule for the weekend. Practice went to Simon Reeves in Nitro and E-buggy, Mark Gregory topped the Truggy class. Come qualifying 7 laps was the target for all drivers. Simon Reeves again dominated Nitro and E-buggy with Jim Thompson just piping Darren Hayden-Ball in the Truggy class all to battle for on the Monday. One fun event on the Sunday would be the Mechanics race plus a few ringers. The race was won by Brian Ward with Gary Clancy taking second and Steve Johnson driving sticks in third place.

The track was faster on Monday with a lot more drivers completing 7 lappers and drivers in lower 45 second lappers but the last two rounds of qualifying confirm Simon Reeves in TQ position in Nitro and E-buggy with Jim Thompson TQing Truggy. Following the qualification there was a junior race for all drivers not making the main A that was won by Liam Dawney. Robson White took second place with Nick Whitehouse completing the podium. The other driver were Alex Michael, Ricky Pinder, Daniel Shelton, Jordan Shelton and Will Daniels. These junior racers will be the next crop of drivers following in Elliot Boots footsteps for sure.

The first two of the three 15 minute E-buggy finals went to Simon Reeves who sat out leg number three. Bart Banach took second with Michael Vaughan wrapping up third in the clubs fastest growing class that is set to getting two regular heats by next Summer. The Truggy final was good final to watch with Jim Thompson and Darren both missing the start and at the end Darren Hayden-Ball crossed the finish line in first position followed by Mark Gregory and Kyle Hill. The Nitro Buggy final went to a dominant Simon Reeves who had Gary Brace and Ian Barnard in tow. The next HNMC race will take place this weekend and you can book in here.
