Lamberto Collari withdraws from IFMAR Worlds

9-time IFMAR World Champion Lamberto Collari has issued a statement that due to the recently reported levels of radiation from the Fukushima plant in Japan that he will not attend next month’s 1/8th World Championships at Kei-Tune Raceway. The Italian, who was aiming for his 10th title in the class, is one of a number of drivers from Italy that we have heard are now not going to the event due this concern.

Dear friends, in more than 25 years of RC racing all over the World I have never faced the event of choosing to voluntarily renounce to take part at a race, especially not such an important event as the World Championship.

Unfortunately, the very latest news about heavy radioactive emissions, out of human tolerance limits, force me to use the maximum prudence possible, despite my will to compete and also bring my solidarity to Japanese RC community that has been struck so hard by such a terrible event.

I owe this cautious behavior to my family, my partners and myself; even the smallest consequence would make the chase to my tenth World Title, for which I trained hard in the last two years, meaningless.

This is why, with a heavy heart, I announce my official withdrawal from the next 8th scale On Road World Championship to be held at Kei-Tune Raceway. Today is a sad day, for me. I’m not sure this is the best choice, but it is my choice. I hope you can understand it; I’ll follow you from my house cheering for each of you, my fellow racers.

in più di venticinque anni di frequentazione delle competizioni modellistiche in tutto il globo, mai mi ero trovato di fronte alla eventualità di decidere per la rinuncia volontaria alla partecipazione di una gara, perlopiù tanto importante quanto è il Campionato del Mondo.

Purtroppo le recenti notizie relative ad emissioni radioattive fuori dalla norma, e dalla possibilità di sopportazione umana, mi inducono alla massima prudenza nonostante la mia volontà di partecipare anche solo per dare un segnale di solidarietà alla comunità modellistica giapponese così duramente colpita da un evento tragico.

Devo questa cautela alla mia famiglia, ai miei collaboratori ed anche a me stesso; anche la minima conseguenza renderebbe vuota e priva di significato la rincorsa al decimo titolo per il quale mi sono a lungo preparato in questi ultimi due anni.

Con il cuore pesante è per questi motivi, che annuncio la mia ufficiale rinuncia alla partecipazione al prossimo WC 1/8 on-road a Kei-Tune Raceway. Oggi è per me un giorno triste; non sono sicuro sia la scelta giusta ma è la mia decisione. Spero solo possiate comprenderla; vi seguirò da casa tifando per ognuno di voi.
