Maxi Vogl wins at German Open Indoor Masters

This year’s German Open Indoor Masters took place at the “Faszination Modellbau” fair in Friedrichshafen, close to Austria and Switzerland, attracting nearly 80 drivers in the 1/8 and 1/10 200mm on-road classes. Qualifying in the 1/8th scale class was very close with Shepherd’s Maxi Vogl missing the TQ spot by only 0.1 sec with a gap of 0.2 sec to the third placed driver. In the 200mm class Patrick Schäfer qualified 2nd in front of his new team mate Bernd Rausch at his first race for Shepherd.

The 1/8th scale final was an easy affair for Maxi. At the beginning he was chased by his young Shepherd team mate Max Günther, who had a really fast pace. Some minutes into the race Max made a small but costly mistake when his Velox got airborne and crashed heavily into the boards. Maxi Vogl continued to control the race for the remaining time and claimed the third German Open Indoor Masters title in a row crossing the finishing line 5 laps in front of Oliver Lembeck with Armin Baier completing the podium.

In the 1/10th scale final the audience saw an intensive battle for the second position between Patrick Schäfer and Bernd Rausch while experienced indoor racer and pole-setter Dominic Greiner pulled away quickly. Unfortunately for Bernd he ran out of fuel just before the third fuel stop. This gave Patrick some room and he conserved his second place. After 30 minutes Dominic Greiner crossed the finishing line in front of Patrick Schäfer with Swiss racer Traugott Schär claiming the final podium spot.
