Soren Boy Holst wins Danish National Champs Rd1

Soren Boy Holst wins Danish National Champs Rd1

First round of the official Danish Indoor Championships was held last weekend in Faxe, on a non-permanent track in a large sports hall. The track had a nice flowing layout, with some technical chicanes and a big sweeper in the middle, and since the same layout had been used for over two years the traction was pretty good right from the start. During Saturday’s practice session it became clear that the battle for the win would be on between Soren Boy Holst, Danni Eyde, Caspar Morgen and Christian Lehm.

In the first round of qualifying Soren made his intentions clear and laid down an error-free run with the remainder of the field having some issues here and there. The laptimes where considerable high at this point indicating that used tyres might be quicker than new ones. In round two lap times immediately dropped by around 0.2 seconds and again it was Soren who scored a TQ although he was chased by Danni and Caspar. In round three Danni improved his time by 2 seconds while Christian took the 3rd place handing Soren the overall TQ followed by Danni and Caspar.

Qualifying top 3:
1. Soren Boy Holst – T.O.P.
2. Danni Eyde – T.O.P.
3. Caspar Morgen – Tamiya

The first A-final saw Soren pulling away right from the start while Danni was in a fight with Caspar and Christian. Caspar though had to retire early in the race with a broken spur gear. The remainder of the final was pretty much a done deal as Soren opened quite a gap to Christian and that also was the 1-2 order after the seven minutes.

The second A-final was the most exciting race to watch all weekend. Everyone had a clean start but Soren’s car became a little bit unsettled in the tight chicane in the middle of the track allowing Danni to take the lead. Soren now was sitting right behind the tail of Danni’s car waiting for a possibility to take back the lead. In the meantime Christian had passed Caspar and started to close the gap on the front runners. Caspar then ran into differential problems and he lost position after position. Up front Soren tried a late move on Danni in the final corner but the cars touched and Soren had to wait and let Danni past, handing him the win of the second A-final. Christian came in third.

Now the heat was on for the decisive final as Danni knew he could take the overall win and Soren was aware that the tight competition left no room for mistakes. Again the start went smoothly with no touches or crashes and up front Soren soon opened a gap leaving Danni in second place and this time Soren kept cool and easily won the final with a hard chasing Danni in second place. Christian came in third making for a 1-2-3 T.O.P. Racing podium sweep.
