Green & Thompson win at BRCA 1/10th Nitro opener

Green & Thompson win at BRCA 1/10th Nitro opener

The first race of the 1/10th British National Championships was held last weekend at the Cotswold Race Track in the heart of the UK with 41 drivers attending. Saturday’s practice was in dry conditions but Sunday’s weather forecast saw rain from 13:00, so 3 rounds of qualifying were completed in the dry and then on time the rain started. No drivers when out for their last race, this left Mark Green and Glyn Beal on TQ for Touring Cars and GT respectively.

All of the finals were then raced on a wet track. The A final for Touring Car was lead by Alex Thurston in the early stages with Shepard driver John Zottl in second place, Mark Green and Joe Kerry were in 4th and 5th places. The water caused problems for Alex and he retired after 20 minute, this left the battle for 1st place between John, Mark and Joe. Joe had a problem with 2 minutes to go, John came in for a late fuel stop allowing Mark Green to take the lead and the win with his Novarossi-powered Serpent 747. The GT class A final was even wetter with only 5 of the cars finishing, the others encountered water problems and Jason Thompson took his first ever A final win with his Serpent. The winners of the Team (Chocolate) Challenge were Team “Billy No Mates” of Mark Green, Pete Spratley and Jason Thompson. The next round of the series will be held at the Wombwell Circuit in Yorkshire on the weekend of 17th and 18th May.
