Bradley Baird wins Irish 1/8th off-road season opener

Round 1 of the 2014 RCCAOI championship, run at BADMCC, had some challenging weather conditions to offer. The decision was made to go ahead, and most of the standing water was removed from the track. Defending champion Bradley Baird (JQ Products) took the top spot in round one, with John Matthews (JQ Products) taking the honours in the electric class. Bradley drove his Orion powered JQ to win each of the following 4 rounds, the only driver to achieve 11 laps, and take the overall TQ from Gary Baird’s Agama in second and Aaron Vance’s Team Durango in third.

Bradley Baird won two rounds of electric qualifying and Aaron Vance the remaining round, but Gary Baird took TQ overall as he had the most consistent qualifying session. The Nitro B final saw Modeltune’s David Henry’s JQ take the race win and bump up along side Jacub Wawrcacz. James Clarke had been in a secure bump up spot leading the final until his engine let go and ended his campaign. The Electric final was next up. After some close racing and numerous changes of the lead, Gary Baird took the honors from Aaron Vance (Team Durango) and Bradley Baird (JQ Products) with defending champion Andrew Rennick (JQ Products) just missing out on the podium in forth, and John Matthews (JQ Products) in fifth.

The Nitro Main was all about one car and driver, Bradley Baird’s Orion powered JQ who led from start to finish to win by 2 laps from second place Aaron Vance and Gary Baird in third. Derek McCloskey managed fourth and Alan Scroggie finished fifth after an unfortunate flame out.
