Swiss nitro on-road nationals Rd2 – Report

The 2nd round of the Swiss nitro on-road nationals was held at Sitterdorf last weekend. Different from other parts of the Alp region, the weather forecast predicted best racing conditions although some low temperatures. In 1/8th class qualifying former World Championship finalist and 2013 Swiss champion, Silvio Haechler took TQ followed by Mattia Pesenti, who was able to score the fastest lap of the day.

Qualifying Top 3 1/8th:
1. Haechler Silvio – KM/Novarossi
2. Pesenti Mattia – Xray/Picco
3. Geisser Andy – Capricorn/Reds

Silvio then also went on to take the TQ in the 200mm class, this time in front of Swiss champ Traugott Schaer and Marco Rizzo.

Qualifying Top 3 1/10th:
1st Haechler Silvio – KM/Novarossi
2nd Schaer Traugott – Xray/Picco
3rd Rizzo Marco – Capricorn/Reds

In the 1/8th A-main, Silvio and Mattia took off without a problem but an early error cost Mattia dearly and he lost a lap which had him fall back to 10th position. The Xray driver soon recovered and was in 2nd position again some 15 minutes into the race. He now tried to chase Silvio in front but he was already around 3/4 of a lap away and so Mattia finished 2nd after the 45 minute final. Silvio came in 1st while Luca Martinelli completed the podium.

Top 3 result 1/8th:
1. Haechler Silvio – KM/Novarossi
2. Pesenti Mattia – Xray/Picco
3. Martinelli Luca – Mugen/Novarossi

In the 1/10th Haechler would dominate nearly all of the race but he had a problem with only 5 minutes to go so Traugott Schaer could take the lead and win the race.

1. Schaer Traugott – Xray/Picco
2. Haechler Silvio – KM/Novarossi
3. Schlehan Severin – Serpent
