Thilo Alexander Toedtmann claims Euro-B title
The 1/10 200mm EFRA European B Championship was held in the last week at the ARCA RC Track in Alcobendas near Madrid. The race showed some strong competition with practice started on Monday running on controlled tires and the race officially kicked off on Thursday with controlled practice rounds. Right from the start Xray’s Thilo Alexander Toedtmann showed a strong pace that he was able to conserve for the timed practice and also the qualifying rounds handing him the provisional TQ on Friday with two rounds to go on Saturday. Cooler temperatures on the weekend meant Thilo’s TQ would be in danger and a mistake in the final lap of the final qualifying round let the German drop to 3rd place overall.
In the semifinals Thilo was able to secure the 2nd position on the starting grid right behind TQ holder Joe Kerry. Right from the start of the 45 minute main, Joe Kerry and Thile broke away from the field very early. Thilo was a bit faster and tried to find a way past the young Brit but Joe tried everything to keep Thilo behind. As his usual pit crew wasn’t available for the final Thilo was pitted by two experienced guys organised by the Spanish Xray distributor which allowed him to take the lead right after the third pit stop thanks to their swift refuelling. As the final went on, different strategies in fuel and tire stops came to light and while Thilo opted to change all four tires at about halftime, Dennis Sting planed to only change left side and Wood even made the final with no tire change. The end of the final saw some mix-up with marshals running all over the track making for some thrilling last minutes but in the end Thilo was able to win the EFRA Euro-B title some two laps in front of Joe Kerry and Simon Wood who finished on the same lap.
