Xray Challenge Grand Final – Report

The Xray Challenge Grand Final was held last weekend at the Hudy Racing Arena in Trencin, Slovakia. Racers from around Europe joined the race, which saw some 60 entries in the 5 different classes of 1/10 nitro, 1/8 nitro, 1/10 Touring Car Modified, 1/10 Touring Car Stock and 1/10 World GT. The racing weekend started on Friday with open practice for all drivers with the good weather allowed for running on the big outdoor track.


On Saturday however, rainy conditions moved the racing indoors for the electric classes. The nitro racing had to be delayed to Sunday. The racers had some good fun racing indoors on the high grip, World-class asphalt track. Alexander Hagberg was able to TQ the first 4 qualifiers in Modified TC, followed by Martin Hudy and Olly Jefferies. Marek Cerny was the quickest driver in Stock TC, followed by David Nemcek.

Sunday started off with sunny but chilly conditions. Electric qualifying finished with the same results as on Sunday. In 1/8th on-road Martin Hudy set the TQ with Alex Hagberg leading the field in 1/10th nitro with a comfortable margin. The finals set off with semi finals for all drivers in the nitro categories and with no surprises already quick drivers moved on to the main 30 minute final without any problems.

In Modified TC Alexander Hagberg managed to win all three finals, challenged at times by Martin Hudy and Olly Jefferies. Kuba Simurda and David Nemcek completed the top 5 result.

In the Stock TC finals, Marek Cerny lead the field in all three legs handing him the overall win. David Nemcek came in 2nd while Blazej Orlowski grabbed the final podium spot.

The World GT class was won by Andrej Vnučko who left Gerhard Binder and Igor Liptak behind in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

In nitro, Martin Hudy won the 1/8 category with ease, using a prototype FX engine in his RX8 2014 car. Alexander Hagberg managed to win the 1/10 class with a 3 lap margin in front of Rico Kröber and Igor Liptak.
