Alex Hagberg & Surikarn C. win at FEMCA champs

The 2014 FEMCA Nitro On-road Championships where held at the Jakarta International Twin Circuit in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The race had some 100 entries with drivers from all over Asia to race in the 1/8th and 1/10th 200mm classes. In the 1/8th category Xray’s Alexander Hagberg qualified in 2nd place with a borrowed RX8 as at first he was unsure whether to run the class or not. In the end he even won his semifinal a couple of laps ahead of the 2nd place driver to line up in pole position in front of pre-event favourite Masgo Tanaka.

By the start of the A-final Alexander was able to build a 5 to 6 second lead following a mistake of Tanaka. Thanks to two swift tyre changes and a clever fuel strategy, Alex was able to make up even more time allowing him to take the win ahead of Masgo Tanaka who had to do an additional stop for fuel.

In the 1/10 class, Alexander Hagberg managed to take the overall TQ position in front of Charlee P. from Thailand. The qualifying was disrupted by rain on Saturday, which meant that only two full rounds would be completed. Surikarn C. from Thailand ended the qualifying in 3rd place. The bumpy yet high-grip track in Senayan proved difficult to all competitors as tyre wear was extremely high this year. So for the finals it was going to be all about tyre strategy. In the semifinal A, Alex narrowly took the win in front of Surikarn C. This meant that he would line up first on the grid for the main final. Right from the start of the main Alex was fighting with Surikarn and Charlee for the lead until he ran into engine trouble that his pit crew was not able to fix. At the end Alex would have to retire at the 25 minute mark. This made way for Surikarn C. who managed to take a convincing win in front of Charlee and local driver Bowie Ginting in 3rd place.
