BRCA Clubman Series 2014 Rd3 – Report
Round 3 of the BRCA Clubman Series was at the beautiful sight of the southern coast at Eastbourne. This track is very tight and twisty with the need to know on how to setup your car for a good result at this track. Showing how its done, the local drivers in the hot conditions set the pace for the weekend. Round 1 of qualifying started on the Sunday with the sun coming in early and strong. This round known by many was the fastest round of the day as the grip conditions get worse as the temperatures go up. In 17.5T, Dominic Skinner set provisional TQ 3 seconds ahead of Darren Tickner almost setting lap record. In 13.5T something never seen before happened. David Spashett set TQ and track record and then on the last heat of the round Tim Hancock then set another track record by a whole second with setting TQ as well.
Round 2 turned up the heat with the track now reaching 38c. Grip conditions were getting worse with laps times going down by almost a second. In 17.5T, Darren Tickner improved by two seconds however it still wasn’t enough to beat Dominic’s time. In 13.5T, David Spashett trying to set another fast time however because of the heat was 5 seconds slower than his previous time.
Round 3 cooled down a little with the clouds setting in and gave the racers a glimpse of hope at setting some faster times. In 17.5T it came true. Darren Tickner set FTQ and track record beating Dominic’s previous time by another second. In 13.5, Liam Brooks coming into the ranks after a slow day at the start and placing himself behind local drivers Tim Hancock and David Spashett who would take 1st and 2nd position.

In the A final of the 13.5T class, this was going to be an all out battle between local drivers Tim Hancock and David Spashett. Liam however putting the pressure on David from the start however making it back later in the race, it was Tim Hancock who didn’t make any mistakes during the two finals and who take overall win complementing his track record as well.

In the A final of the 17.5T class the sun came back out making it tricky for drivers. Dominic won the first round then however had troubles at the second with Shaun Batt getting winning overall coming from 4th position.
