Mario Spiniello wins 200mm class at Novarossi Trophy

During last weekend’s 10th edition of the annual Novarossi Trophy held in Gubbio, Italy Dario Balestri took the TQ in the 1/10th 200mm class from local driver Alessio Agostinelli and Alessio Forte. Mario Spiniello completed the top 4 after the qualifiers.

The final saw some very close racing and lots of emotions. Before the start Alessio Agostinelli ran into technical problems meaning he would have to start from 11th on the grid. Right from the beginning Dario Balestri jumped into the lead followed by Forte and Spiniello. During the first pit stop for fuel Dario suffered a flame out and his pit crew was not able to restart his car’s engine. Meanwhile Daniele and Alessio Agostinelli were able to open a gap to the field with Daniele taking the lead. Further down the field Forte and Mario ran into problems with lapped drivers but some 15 minutes into the race the top 3 of Daniele, Alessio and Mario were separated by only 2 seconds. Later Mario made contact with a lapped driver and he ended up in the pitlane and afterwards was forced to push very hard to make up the lost seconds. After an impressive recovery he managed to pass Daniele to grab the 2nd place behind Forte who then was struck by a flameout allowing Mario to take the lead just a few seconds in front of Alessio Agostinelli. With 5 laps to go Mario had to come in for a splash and dash and he left the pitlane in 2nd position just behind Agostinelli who tried to defend his position by all means. With two laps to go Mario passed Alessio for the lead and Agostinelli tried an impossible move in the last corner sending Mario off the track to take the win. Afterwards the race director decided to hand Alessio a 10 second penalty which gave Mario Spiniello the win from Alessio and Daniele Agostinelli.
