Patrick Folman takes Danish Modified TC title

Patrick Folman takes Danish Modified TC title

The final round of the Danish National Electric Touring Car series was held at the Odense R/C Minirace track. Saturday was devoted to practice and everybody was trying to find a setup for a track that started out dusty with low grip, but ended up with medium grip. Much focus was on the Modified class and before the final round several drivers had changed sponsors, teams and cars. This was going to be the first race for Patrick Folman, now driving for Schumacher with the Mi5Evo, Frederik Hovgaard with his new Danish-developed Gizmo touring car, and Gustav Pind driving the Yokomo BD7. During Saturday’s practice Frederik Hovgaard demonstrated some really fast lap times with his Gizmo while the developers of the car were at the track to support Frederik. Only Patrick Folman could match the pace and behind the two Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen and Gustav Pind were working hard to catch up. Further down the field Stefan Finnich (Xray), Lars Holm (Yokomo) and Anders Dyrlund (TOP) were also in the mix.

On race day, the track had better grip and all racers were able to set fast lap times. Patrick Folman was able to take the TQ in the first two rounds of qualifying, not running the last round to save his tires, due to excessive tire wear. Folman was followed by Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen and Gustav Pind with their Yokomos. Frederik Hovgaard had some trouble with the diff on his Gizmo and this, combined with a couple of rolls, send him to the 4th position on the starting grid, which was as follows:

Touring Car Modified qualifying result:
1. Patrick Folman – Schumacher
2. Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen – Yokomo
3. Gustav Pind – Yokomo BD7
4. Frederik Hovgaard – Gizmo
5. Stefan Finnich – Xray
6. Martin Dyrlund – TOP
7. Lars Holm – Yokomo

The opening A-final was run on a slightly wet track due to light rain from a cloudy sky, and this put everybody to the test. Patrick Folman made the best out of the difficult conditions and took the win in front of Frederik Hovgaard, Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen and Gustav Pind. The second final was run on a dry track and the leg ended in the same order as the first, even though the conditions were quite different. The top 4 racers, Patrick Folman, Frederik Hovgaard, Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen and Gustav Pind were just faster than the rest of the pack, with Patrick Folman and Frederik Hovgaard battling in front with Gustav Pind chasing Fredrik Broløs Mikkelsen. The last A-final was the scene for a spectacular fight for the 1st place between Patrick Folman and Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen. Folman found himself in the middle of the field in the beginning of the race and he had to push hard to work his way up again. In front Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen was leading in front of Gustav Pind and Frederik Hovgaard. Folman eventually caught Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen and they had an epic fight all the way to the finish, when Frederik Broløs Mikkelsen were able to keep Patrick Folman behind him for almost the entire race.
