VBC Invitational Sweden – Report

VBC Invitational Sweden – Report

The 2015 VBC Invitational race was held at the Hobbyexpo in Stockholm, Sweden this past weekend. The track was tight and very technical, so mistakes would cost a lot and the race was held in a Reedy-style format, meaning no qualifiers but all finals for the 30 racers from Finland, Sweden and Norway. Handout slick tyres and a mandatory tyre sauce made for equal conditions for everyone and the race started out on Saturday with five rounds of 4WD racing of which four counted towards the overall result. At the end Karri Salmela from Finland, Oskar Levin from Sweden and Daniel Kobbevik from Norway all scored a maximum of 40 points.

So the stages was set for some crazy battles on Sunday in the 2WD class. The special race format made for close decisions and so again three drivers ended tie on points after the 2WD races with Andreas Edvinsson from Sweden had managed to get as much points as Daniel Kobbevik and Oskar Levin. It followed the “death race” in which Team Associated driver Daniel Kobbevik, Yokomo driver Andreas Edvinsson and HB driver Oskar Levin had to battle it out for 5 minutes, side-by-side. Daniel got the best start and he soon was up and away and only a big mistake could change that, but the 10-years old Team Associated Factory Team driver kept everything together and he took his first VBC Invitational Race win from Andreas and Oskar. Karri Salmela won the “Spanish  Champion” title, the combined fastest lap of the 4WD and 2WD runs.
