Hagberg holds overnight TQ at Hot Race Shootout

The 2016 Hot Race Winter Shootout is taking place this weekend at the RCLandia track in Scandiano, Italy. The 2-day event has attracted 90 drivers from seven different countries to compete in the four classes of Touring Modified, Touring Stock, Formula and 1/12th scale. The race format saw free practice, two qualifiers and the Shootout Race on Saturday with two more qualifying rounds and the finals to follow on Sunday. After two rounds of qualifying Alexander Hagberg is sitting on top in the Touring Modified and 1/12th scale class with Marco Kaufmann, Dionys Stadler, Mattia Collina, Fabrizio Manicardi and off-road racer Marco Baruffolo being in chase of Alexander in the Modified category. Fastest in the Touring Stock class so far is Simone Alleotti while Simone Brocca is holding the overnight TQ in the Formula class.

As for the unique Shootout Race 2.0 format, the fun race had the top 10 drivers of each class battling against each other in 3-lap races, run in reverse direction and without a warm up lap. To make things even more interesting the TQ holder raced against the 10th placed driver, the runner-up against the 9th placed and so on. After the first round, with 5 drivers per class remaining, the fastest driver of round one directly proceeded into the “main” final while the second to fourth place had another shootout as in round 1. The remaining drivers would then race against each other in a final race and in Touring Modified it was Riccardo Rabitti who came out successful while in Touring Stock Andrea Ghilotti took the winning honours. 1/12th scale had Alexander Hagberg taking the victory and Simone Brocca was able grab the win in Formula.

The Hot Race Shootout continues today with the remaining qualifiers and the main finals.
