Speed King Tour Rd3 – Report

The third round of this year’s Speed King Tour was held at the TM circuit in Wakayama. It was the first time the series visited the outdoor tarmac track in the Kansai area and the event saw the running of Modified and Stock Touring classes. Young Yokomo driver Naoki Akiyama took the TQ in the Modified class while the series’ points leader Akio Sobue (Tamiya) came in second second. Yusuke Goto would line up in third for the single A-main with his ARC.

At the start of the 7-minute A-main Naoki jumped into the lead but his car looked a bit unsettled compared to the qualifiers. Akio and Yusuke tried to make use of Naoki’s situation but pushing hard both made mistakes, allowing Naoki room to breathe. With Naoki still in front and slightly slower than his competitors, Yusuke tried everything to pass the Yokomo driver but Naoki kept his cool to bring home his first Speed King Tour win of the year. Yusuke had to settle for second while another young Yokomo driver, Ryosuke Yamamoto took third.
