Rivkin & Maifield successful at ROAR Fuel Nationals

This past weekend saw the running of the 2016 ROAR 1/8th Fuel Off-road Nationals at Thornhill Raceway in Hutto, Texas. TLR’s Ryan Maifield would double TQ the event but in the hour-long Nitro Buggy A-main it was Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin who stole the show by taking the win with a narrow 1.5s from Maifield. Spencer would take the lead in the early stages of the main while Maifield dropped down the order, letting Ryan Cavalieri (Team Associated) and Ryan Lutz (Tekno) by. Also in the mix was HB’s Ty Tessmann who even lead in the early stages of the race but once things settled in, Spencer would control the pace from the front with team mate Ryan Cavalieri in tow. The latter would then fall back in the closing stages, allowing Maifield to put pressure on Rivkin while also Tessmann regained a podium spot shortly after. Ultimately Rivkin would bring home his first big national title in style to add to his Stock Buggy and Short Course Championships and his IFMAR 2WD World Championship title.

In the 45 minute Truggy final Ryan Maifield (TLR) dominated the field as he did in qualifying. Leading every lap of the race he would take a commanding win from Ryan Lutz, although this was only made possible as disaster stroke for his hottest contester, Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated), who was hindered by a flame-out late in the race, denying him a race for the win and even a podium finish. Instead Ryan Lutz would slowly but steadily climb up the order to finish in second, only to have the result taken away post-race as his truck was found to be underweight. This promoted Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri into second with Ty Tessmann (HB) completing the podium result in third.
