2016 Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout – Report

The 19th annual Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout was held this past weekend in Saugus, California. In the premier 2WD Modified class Kyosho’s Jared Tebo would grab the overall TQ but in the A-mains it was HB Racing’s Ty Tessmann who came out on top after scoring wins in A1 and A2. Jared had to settle for second while Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri completed the top 3 podium result.

4WD Modified Buggy saw a pretty clean sweep by TLR’s Ryan Maifield who started from pole position into the triple A-main events. Undefeated wins in the opening two A-main legs won him the overall title, allowing Ryan to sit out A3. TLR teammate Dustin Evens came in second while Ty Tessmann (HB Racing) had to settle for third.

In the Modified Truck class it was Kyosho’s Jared Tebo who made a clean sweep by grabbing the TQ and the overall win although he had to defend himself from Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri who took the win in A1 with a 2 seconds margin. Jared though stroke back in A2 and A3 for the overall victory while Ryan took the runner-up spot from Naoto Matsukura (Kyosho).

The 2WD Modified Short Course category saw the fourth different modified class winner with Ryan Cavalieri grabbing the win from the pole position. Matt Chambers (Kyosho) came in second from Kyosho teammate Joe Pillars.

Finally in the fifth and last of the Modified classes, 1/8th E-Buggy, David Jenson came out successful from Radcliff Brill and Oliver Lindgaard.
